Prime Minister agrees to build a river tunnel connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Dong Nai

During the report to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on the progress of the Long Thanh airport project and Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee - Vo Tan Duc proposed that the Prime Minister approve the plan to build a tunnel across Dong Nai River connecting Dong Nai with Ho Chi Minh City instead of the plan to build Cat Lai bridge.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed to the plan to build a river tunnel to replace Cat Lai bridge.

Previously, at the working session with the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, Fecon Joint Stock Company and its partner Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co.STEC also proposed two options for building a tunnel across the Dong Nai River with open tunnels in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai, along with a closed tunnel across the river. Both options were proposed to have two parallel tunnels.

Specifically, in option 1, Fecon Joint Stock Company proposed an 8-lane plan with 4 lanes per tunnel, designed speed of 80 km/h. With this plan, the route length is more than 2.3 km. As for option 2, the unit proposed a scale of 6 lanes with 3 lanes per tunnel. The route length is more than 1.7 km.

Regarding the proposal of the Chairman of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh agreed with the plan to build a river tunnel instead of the plan to build a bridge in the Cat Lai area connecting Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City.

Also during the meeting, the Prime Minister agreed to the policy of upgrading the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to 10 lanes. At the same time, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc was assigned to directly direct the capital source of the Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) in expanding the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh Expressway and report to the Prime Minister on the solution before December 15; complete the documents submitted to the National Assembly in December.
