Prime Minister shares "gentle and smooth" feelings in Vietnam's victory

(Dan Tri) - Sharing about the emotional final match, the Prime Minister mentioned the goal scored by player Hai Long. "When the ball slowly rolls into the net while the opponent is helpless, it is a gentle and sweet feeling," said the Prime Minister.

Many emotions about the final match between Vietnam and Thailand at the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup™ 2024 (AFF Cup) were shared by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh when he met and congratulated the team on their return home after winning the championship on the afternoon of January 6.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that until now, he is still very emotional about the long journey of the Vietnamese team in this tournament, from training to competing and winning.

"It was an emotional journey, culminating in the final match with the last goal scored by player Nguyen Hai Long. When the ball slowly rolled into the net with the opponent helpless, it was a gentle and sweet feeling, sublimating our victory," the Prime Minister shared.

According to the head of the Government, this result is a breakthrough, thanks to the attention of the Party, the State and thanks to the fans who have always loved, accompanied and supported the team.

On behalf of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and leaders of the Party and State, the Prime Minister congratulated and thanked the team, generations of players, coaches and team members, thanking them for a sweet victory, after a high-level, dramatic match between the two strongest teams in Southeast Asia.

Notably, according to the Prime Minister, this is the first time we have brought the regional championship trophy back to the country from abroad. He said the team finished the tournament with 7 wins, 1 draw and undefeated, setting a record for the number of wins (7 matches) at the ASEAN Cup. In the 29-year history of the tournament, no team has ever achieved this in a single competition, according to the Prime Minister.

The Vietnamese team ended the AFF Cup 2024 with 21 goals, the best achievement in the history of participating in the tournament (record of 21 goals scored in 2002).

This tournament is also the first time Vietnam has had a player win both the Golden Boot and Best Player of the tournament (player Nguyen Xuan Son). Goalkeeper Dinh Trieu of the Vietnam team also won the Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

"The taste of victory will last forever, what comes from the heart will touch the heart, but the road ahead is still very long," the Prime Minister shared and informed that during the afternoon reception that same day, the UN Deputy Secretary-General shared joy, congratulated Vietnam, and congratulated the "golden star warriors".

According to the head of the Government, in the coming time, football and the sports industry in general must continue to develop, together with the nation to develop civilization and prosperity. To do so, those working in sports cannot be intoxicated with victory but must continue to strive and make efforts to develop top-level sports, including football.

From this victory, the Prime Minister hopes to have more confidence, spirit, and momentum to achieve further victories, even greater victories, not letting down the love of the fans. The Prime Minister sets the goal for Vietnamese football to strive to win the Asian championship and participate in the World Cup.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister sent his regards and encouragement to player Nguyen Xuan Son as well as other injured players.

He especially appreciated Nguyen Xuan Son's affection for Vietnam and believed that with a strong will, the players will soon recover their health, come back stronger, continue to contribute and, together with the national team, affirm the position of Vietnamese football in the regional and international arenas.

On behalf of the National Men's Football Team, Captain Do Duy Manh sent his thanks to the Prime Minister and delegates.

The Vietnamese team would like to thank Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and all senior leaders for always encouraging, supporting, cheering and accompanying the team. According to the players, this victory belongs to the Vietnamese people, to the Vietnamese Fatherland.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, presented noble awards to the team and its members.

Accordingly, the team was awarded the First Class Labor Medal by the President.

Players Nguyen Xuan Son, Do Duy Manh, Nguyen Quang Hai, Nguyen Tien Linh, Nguyen Hoang Duc, Nguyen Dinh Trieu were awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the President.
