(Dan Tri) - In the last days of the 12th lunar month, Sa Dec flower village (Dong Thap), considered the flower capital of the West, becomes bustling. Flowers begin to "bloom" ready to serve the Tet market.
In the days leading up to the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024, farmers in Sa Dec flower village (Sa Dec city, Dong Thap province), considered the largest flower capital in the West, are busy with production. People are focusing on "sprinting" to take care of flowers for the Tet crop. This is also the time when fertilizer and coconut fiber warehouses and businesses in the flower village area become bustling. In the last months of the year, farmers in Sa Dec flower village - a traditional flower growing village with over 100 years of history, actively started producing Tet flowers. The streets in the flower village are always bustling at the end of the year, both sides of the road are decorated with red flags with yellow stars to prepare for the Lunar New Year. Serving the Sa Dec Flower and Ornamental Festival held for the first time at the end of the year and the Lunar New Year market, compared to previous years, this Tet flower crop, flower farmers have calculated more carefully, selectively planting to suit customer tastes. Before the New Year, Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep (48 years old) sold more than 1,000 baskets of raspberry chrysanthemums. "To serve people buying flowers for Tet, my garden is preparing to export 2,000 more baskets of raspberry chrysanthemums. The average price is from 150,000-200,000 VND/basket of flowers, depending on the type of flower," Mr. Hiep said. From 6am to late afternoon, Mrs. Ho Thi Huong (45 years old) works hard to take care of her Tet flower garden, hoping for a bountiful harvest. ''Gardening is like that, starting early in the morning, coming home for a short rest at noon, and then going back to the garden in the afternoon. If you don't take care of it carefully, you might end up empty-handed. My family mainly grows roses and chrysanthemums. It's hard work, but I'm used to it. The more I work, the closer it gets to Tet, so it's fun,'' Mrs. Huong shared. In the days leading up to Tet, in addition to the busy care of flowers for gardeners, flower transporters and ornamental flower sellers are also always busy. For the past 5 years, Mr. Huynh Van Hai (56 years old, from Chau Phu district, An Giang province), with his flower transport truck, has been selling flowers all over the roads in An Giang and Dong Thap provinces to earn money to cover living expenses and treat his wife's illness. "At that time, my wife was already weak, her body was weak, and she fell off her bike so her legs could not walk anymore. It was very difficult, but we had to rely on each other. My son went to work far away. Leaving my wife alone at home with no one to take care of her, I took her with me to sell ornamental plants so that I could take care of her," said Mr. Hai. In order to ensure the supply of fertilizers and growing media for agriculture, many boats from neighboring areas have "raced" to transport straw, cow manure, coconut fiber, etc. to serve gardeners at the end of the year. Flower care requires meticulousness and skill from the gardeners in Sa Dec flower village. They must determine the right time for the flowers to bloom in time for Tet, and create beautiful bouquets to attract buyers. Nestled along the Tien River, Sa Dec flower village always receives the quintessence of nature. In Tan Quy Dong commune, the cradle of the flower craft village with an area of up to 300 hectares, to be accepted by the market, many gardeners use organic fertilizers that do not pose a danger to the environment and consumers. Flowers in Sa Dec flower village not only have aesthetic value but also carry cultural meaning and typical life of this land. This place not only attracts locals but also attracts tourists from all over to visit and take photos every time Tet comes and spring comes. Coming to Sa Dec flower village at this time, we can easily feel the atmosphere of spring, in the flower fields, farmers are busy with work, spending a lot of effort to take care of each flower basket that has been planted and placing their hopes on a bumper Tet flower crop.
