On the morning of February 14, at Son Tay High School (Son Tay town, Hanoi), a ceremony was held to announce the decision to reorganize the school into Son Tay Specialized High School.
Reporting on the project to build a specialized school, teacher Pham Thi Huyen, Vice Principal in charge of Son Tay High School, said that the school was established in 1959 and the specialized system was established in 1992 with the first 3 specialized classes: Math, Information Technology, and Literature. The specialized system of the school was implemented until 1996 and then temporarily stopped. In May 2004, the school was allowed to reopen some specialized classes. In recent years, the school's annual scale has been stable with 27 specialized classes and 18 non-specialized classes.
The school's educational quality has improved significantly in the past 10 years, with many students winning medals and awards at the city, national and international levels.
At the ceremony, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced and handed over Decision No. 265/QD-UBND of the Hanoi People's Committee on reorganizing Son Tay High School into Son Tay Specialized High School. The decision takes effect from January 15, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong affirmed that the decision of the City People's Committee to reorganize Son Tay High School into Son Tay Specialized High School under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training is an important event, marking the development of the capital's education and training sector in fundamental and comprehensive innovation of education and training.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong requested Son Tay High School for the Gifted to focus on developing an operational plan that complies with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on the organization and operation of specialized high schools; clearly defining goals and specific solutions to build the school into a high-quality, leading educational institution of Hanoi and the whole country.
Mr. Cuong also requested Son Tay High School for the Gifted to do a good job of creating sources of enrollment, proactively implementing solutions to attract excellent junior high school students to the school's specialized classes from the 2025-2026 school year; constantly innovate the educational program; build and update the educational plan of specialized subjects according to the curriculum framework of the Ministry of Education and Training but with the school's own identity and characteristics.
Thus, up to this point, Hanoi city has 4 specialized high schools under the Department of Education and Training including: Hanoi - Amsterdam, Nguyen Hue, Chu Van An and Son Tay.
