Call of Duty is a franchise that has seen its fair share of ups and downs, but has consistently released a new game every fall for the past 20 years. Despite that, Call of Duty will likely continue its steady rollout with a new game from developer Treyarch coming this October. According to Inverse, Xbox boss Phil Spencer told employees in a recent meeting that a new Call of Duty game is slated for release in October.

This will be the first Call of Duty game officially developed under Microsoft, so the company has more flexibility to delay the game if necessary. Even though Microsoft just paid $68 billion for Activision, they probably won't miss out on a chance to make money if they can capitalize on it.
This year's game is expected to be a new Black Ops installment, reportedly called Black Ops Gulf War . The game is set in the 90s and features the return of characters from the Black Ops series .
Call of Duty typically launches in November, but some versions have been released a month earlier, so this game could be released around the end of October. It's unclear whether Microsoft is trying to avoid overlapping with another game scheduled for release in November.
