Community tourism highlight
When it comes to A Luoi community tourism, we cannot ignore A Nor Community Tourism Village (Hong Kim Commune) - a 3-star OCOP product, featuring ethnic cultural features and typical products. According to Mr. Hoang Thanh Duy, Director of A Nor Ecotourism Cooperative, the cooperative currently has 90 members, mainly Pa Co people. Previously, people mainly did farming, now they do both farming and tourism, helping to increase their average income by about 4 - 5 million VND/month.
In addition to providing homestay accommodation services, the cooperative also organizes unique experiential activities such as participating in traditional festivals, cultural exchanges, enjoying local cuisine, herbal saunas, bathing in natural hot springs, etc. The cooperative cooperates with travel agencies to organize welcoming groups of guests to increase revenue. The cooperative also invests in upgrading infrastructure, such as renovating roads to the village, building an eco-resort with stilt houses, creating a clean and beautiful space to attract tourists. Members of the cooperative are trained in tour guide skills, culinary services and performing arts to improve service quality.
Ms. Le Thi Them, Head of the Department of Culture, Science and Information of A Luoi district, emphasized: “We encourage cooperatives to combine preserving indigenous culture with economic development. Community tourism helps generate income for local people, while spreading local culture further. People actively participating in the community tourism model has helped A Luoi become more and more known.”
Aza Koonh Green Brocade Cooperative, founded by artisan Mai Thi Hop, has spread the zèng weaving craft of the Ta Oi people, attracting tourists to both learn about the culture and buy products. On average, each zèng fabric sells for 300,000 - 600,000 VND; each high-end product is nearly 2 million VND, helping to ensure income for more than 100 workers. The cooperative also creates creative products such as clothes, bags, scarves, ao dai and accessories, souvenirs from zèng fabric, suitable for modern tastes.
According to artisan Mai Thi Hop, combining tradition and modernity is the “key” to the sustainable development of zèng weaving. “We create more designs that suit modern tastes, and at the same time organize weaving introduction sessions so that tourists can understand and appreciate the cultural value better. Thanks to that, the weaving profession is both preserved and provides a stable source of income for many women in the region,” Ms. Hop shared.
The cooperative also actively promotes its products through fairs, exhibitions and cooperates with travel companies to bring tourists to visit the weaving workshop. This is not only a way to introduce traditional crafts to tourists, stimulate product purchasing power but also a way to increase the value of zèng products in the market.
Increase the value of local products
In addition to cultural tourism, cooperatives in A Luoi also promote the development of local agricultural products, such as VietGAP dwarf bananas, Bo Chinh ginseng, sturgeon, clean agricultural products, etc. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Vice Chairman of A Luoi District People's Committee, said: "The district focuses on supporting cooperatives and localities to improve the quality of OCOP products, increase the connection between tourism and agricultural product consumption, contributing to helping people increase income and escape poverty sustainably. In addition to encouraging people to grow medicinal plants, the district also seeks stable output through connecting with businesses and distributors. When there is a sustainable consumption market, people will feel secure in production. From there, increase income and contribute to the development of green, sustainable tourism for the locality."
Currently, A Luoi district also has plans to expand tourist routes connecting with neighboring localities; at the same time, calling for investment to upgrade infrastructure, meeting the needs of tourists. With these efforts, community tourism is not only a way to help escape poverty but also a driving force for A Luoi to develop strongly in the future.
