On June 9, the Istanbul Mayor's Office announced that Turkish security forces seized $1 billion in counterfeit money in the city and arrested six people involved in the operation, including a Ghanaian and three Swedish nationals.

The office said gendarmes tracked the suspects to a warehouse in Istanbul's Kagithane district, where they seized counterfeit $100 bills destined for African countries.

Authorities searched the suspects' residences and seized cash and jewelry. The Swedish and Ghanaian consulates were informed about the incident.

The office stressed that this was the largest counterfeit money shipment in Türkiye's history./.
