Turkish gendarmes tracked the suspects to a warehouse in Istanbul's Kagithane district, where they seized counterfeit $100 bills destined for African countries.
On June 9, the Istanbul Mayor's Office announced that Turkish security forces seized $1 billion in counterfeit money in the city and arrested six people involved in the operation, including a Ghanaian and three Swedish nationals.
The office said gendarmes tracked the suspects to a warehouse in Istanbul's Kagithane district, where they seized counterfeit $100 bills destined for African countries.
Authorities searched the suspects' residences and seized cash and jewelry. The Swedish and Ghanaian consulates were informed about the incident.
