2025 is the 8th year that Ho Chi Minh City National University has organized the competency assessment exam. Compared to previous years, the first round of this year's exam has a record high number of candidates registering for the exam.

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry (Go Vap District), from 6 am, many candidates and parents were present at the exam site. Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan, Head of Training Department - Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, said that this was also the exam period in which the school had a record number of candidates with more than 6,500 students (nearly double that of 2024). To promptly support candidates, the school arranged more than 100 volunteer students to be on duty from early morning.

Because I study the 2018 General Education Program, I feel that the knowledge is a bit heavy. My strength is social subjects, but the competency assessment exam integrates 6 subjects."

Bringing her child from Long An province to Ho Chi Minh City to take the exam, Ms. Ngoc Giao said she was very nervous and even had trouble sleeping the night before.

"I will be at the exam location waiting until my child finishes the exam. I want to accompany my child, no matter what the exam result is, I will be very proud. In my hometown, many parents came 1-2 days early and rented a room in Ho Chi Minh City, others rented a car from 1-2 am this morning to get to the exam location on time" - Ms. Giao said.

Similarly, Ms. Ngoc Bich (residing in Long An province) said that because her family lives in the province, the distance from her house to the exam location is more than 100 km, making travel difficult. To ensure her child's health, she had to arrive in Ho Chi Minh City 2 days early.

The exam site of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU has many candidates from the provinces coming to take the exam.

A representative of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade (Tan Phu District) said that this year's exam site had more than 2,000 candidates. Most of them were from Tan Phu and Binh Tan districts. The school arranged student volunteers to support candidates and parents at the exam site.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Training Quality Assurance - Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the first round of the 2025 competency assessment exam had 130,647 candidates registered, of which 128,331 candidates completed the exam procedures - the highest ever. Ho Chi Minh City has many exam locations with 51,074 candidates taking the exam here and is also the locality with the most students registering for the exam (40,452 students).

The issue that many candidates are concerned about is the competency assessment test because this year candidates study according to the 2018 General Education Program, there are subjects that they do not study.

From this year, the assessment test structure has been adjusted to match the 2018 General Education Program. Specifically, the test still has 3 parts. Part 1: Using language (Vietnamese, English) only increases the number of questions from 40 to 60. Part 2: The test structure in 2024 is mathematics - logic - data analysis with 30 questions, while in 2025 it will only be mathematics with 30 questions.

Candidates will have 150 minutes to do the test.
