The underground coal mining project of the Ha Rang mine extension of the Hon Gai Coal Company, under the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (TKV), is located in Ha Khanh ward, Ha Long city and Quang Hanh ward, Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province. The project has a capacity of 900,000 tons of raw coal/year; the basic construction period is 4 years. The mine's lifespan is 17 years and is expected to reach its design capacity in 2029. The project has a total investment of more than VND 1,410 billion.
Mining depth in this project is from -100 to -250m.
According to information from Hon Gai Coal Company, the company has been actively working with the authorities to urgently implement investment procedures and tasks. The project is expected to start construction in the third quarter of 2024.
Previously, in November 2023, TKV also started the project "Mining below -220 level of Binh Minh Mine" of Hon Gai Coal Company.
Binh Minh mine located in Ha Long city has been exploited since 2010, with an exploitation level of -75 to -220m, but is currently in a phase of reduced production and is expected to end exploitation in 2026.
This is a project that is exploited in succession of the project at the exploitation level from -75 to -220m with the studied seams including 5 seams from seam 1 to seam 5.
The project "Mining below -220 level of Binh Minh mine" has a total investment of 1,100 billion VND, with raw coal reserves of more than 9 million tons, capacity of 500,000 tons/year, exploitation for 21 years, exploitation level -220 to -350m.
The project includes 2 continuous mining furnaces, 1 mechanized furnace with a capacity of 300,000-350,000 tons/year and 1 chain frame furnace with a capacity of 200,000-250,000 tons/year. At the same time, it will maximize the use of automated conveyor technology in the mine and on the ground, delivering raw coal directly to the Hon Gai Coal Selection Company.
According to a representative of Hon Gai Coal Company, the company is currently urgently digging the basic tunnel and is expected to officially put it into operation within the next 3-4 years.
The two underground mining projects of Hon Gai Coal Company are considered important projects to create production areas for the coming years, maintain and develop the company's production, and meet the increasing demand for coal.
Currently, the units exploiting the deepest mines of TKV in Ha Long are Ha Lam Coal Joint Stock Company and Nui Beo Coal Joint Stock Company, Ha Long City, both exploiting at a depth of more than 300m below sea level.
In order to maintain production development and especially contribute to ensuring national energy security, in recent times, TKV has implemented a series of expansion projects to increase the capacity of a number of mines. In particular, in August 2023, the project "Renovating and expanding the capacity of Cao Son coal mine" in Cam Pha city was started with a total investment of more than 1,800 billion VND, an exploitation capacity of 4.5 million tons of raw coal/year with exploited coal reserves of 51.9 million tons.
In the coming time, TKV will continue to promote the implementation of mine development projects, aiming to increase output in the coming years, meeting coal needs for the economy and the development requirements of the group.
