Huge breast tumor persisted for 3 years
Recently, doctors at K Hospital successfully removed a "huge" breast tumor measuring more than 20cm in diameter and weighing more than 3kg from Ms. Le Thi H. (49 years old, residing in An Duong district, Hai Phong city). It is worth mentioning that the patient was afraid to go to the doctor, but kept this tumor for more than 3 years. It was only when the tumor showed signs of bleeding, became too large, and her breasts became increasingly tense and painful that the patient went to K Hospital for examination.

Doctors said that before coming to the hospital for examination and treatment, Ms. H. had touched and discovered an abnormal mass in her right breast a long time ago. However, due to subjectivity, she was also embarrassed because she had not married or had children, so she let the tumor progress for more than 3 years. When the tumor was bleeding and the size of a cabbage, the patient came to see a doctor.
At the hospital, doctors diagnosed a fibroadenoma of the right breast, a large tumor with a diameter of more than 20cm. Dr. Pham Hong Khoa, Head of the Quan Su Examination Department, said: "The tumor had appeared a long time ago, growing too large over a long period of time, leading to rapid progression, inflammation, ulcers, infection, bleeding, and discharge. After a consultation, we recommended complete removal of the right breast to avoid spreading infection. If not operated on early, the tumor could rupture, ulcerate severely, threatening the patient's health and psychology. Therefore, the patient was advised to be hospitalized early to treat this tumor."

Dr. Khoa said: "The patient was admitted to the hospital in a stable general health condition, the two breasts were asymmetrical due to the large tumor causing a difference in size between the left and right. The right breast had a hard mass. There was not much mammary parenchyma left due to the tumor's compression. The right breast sagged. The immediate biopsy result was a grade 1 mammary phyllodes tumor. This is a rare type of tumor that develops in the connective tissue of the breast, with a polymorphic nature. Therefore, in order to clearly determine whether the patient's tumor is benign or malignant, we will conduct additional biopsies of other locations on the tumor to provide further treatment for the patient."
Currently, after surgery, Ms. H.'s health condition is stable. Ms. H. is happy because she no longer feels self-conscious about the large difference in the size of her breasts, and especially her daily activities will be easier, and her health will not be affected by the heavy tumor as before.
According to Dr. Khoa, phyllodes tumor of the breast is a special disease of the breast, can develop very quickly, easily recur, and easily increase in malignancy. Phyllodes tumor has 3 levels: benign phyllodes tumor, borderline phyllodes tumor, and malignant phyllodes tumor. Through the case of patient Le Thi H., doctors at K Hospital also recommend that women should proactively prevent the disease by regularly monitoring their health status. At the same time, women should also regularly perform self-examination for abnormalities that appear on the body, promptly go to the hospital, see a doctor to detect and treat problems related to the breast.
