Updated data from the General Department of Customs shows that in April, the country imported 667,243 tons of various types of gasoline and oil with a total turnover of 534.1 million USD, down 11.4% in volume and 12.5% in turnover compared to the previous month.
Compared to the same period last year (April 2022), both the volume and value of Vietnam's petroleum imports decreased sharply. Of which, the volume decreased by 15.5% and the value decreased by 38.5%.
Petroleum imports fell sharply in April
Accumulated from the beginning of the year to the end of April, the whole country imported 3.26 million tons of gasoline and oil with a total turnover of 2.77 billion USD, down 4.8% in volume and 16.3% in turnover compared to the same period last year.
Regarding import markets, Vietnam continues to buy the most gasoline and oil from Korea with a quantity of up to 1.25 million tons, second from Singapore with 825,715 tons, third from Malaysia with 500,302 tons, from China with 353,003 tons...
On the other hand, in April, Vietnam exported 185,208 tons of petroleum with a turnover of 153.81 million USD, down 21.7% in volume and 22.8% in turnover compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period last year, Vietnam's petroleum export volume and turnover also decreased, by 7.4% and 23.8%, respectively.
In the first 4 months, Vietnam exported 739,619 tons of petroleum, earning 642 million USD, a slight decrease compared to the same period. In terms of markets, Vietnam mainly exports petroleum to 9 markets. Of which, Cambodia leads with 214,299 tons, Singapore with 79,216 tons, South Korea with 67,654 tons, China with 52,618 tons...
In 2022, the country imported 8,874,959 tons of gasoline and oil, worth 8.9 billion USD, up 27.7% in volume and 118.5% in value compared to 2021. This year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade assigned key enterprises to purchase and import 25.9 - 26.7 million m3 , tons of gasoline and oil, up 10 - 15% compared to 2022. However, due to no increase in demand, in the past 4 months, gasoline and oil imports decreased by nearly 5% in volume compared to last year.
