Update gold price this afternoon March 25, 2025 in the world
On the afternoon of March 25, the world gold price reached 3,012.99 USD/ounce, down slightly by 11.98 USD/ounce compared to the previous trading session. The main reason was profit-taking by short-term investors and the strong recovery of the US stock market. However, this decrease was not enough to mark a weakening of the long-term uptrend.
US gold futures edged up to $3,019.70 an ounce. Uncertainty over the scope and scale of new tariffs that the US may impose has investors remaining cautious, continuing to view gold as a hedge against risk, according to IG analyst Yeap Jun Rong. President Trump recently announced tariffs on imported cars, but also left open the possibility of not implementing all of the previously proposed tariffs.
Trump’s tax policies are expected to increase trade tensions, slow US economic growth and push up inflation. These factors create favorable conditions for gold prices to continue to rise in the context of uncertainty and low interest rates. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic said the process of curbing inflation will be slower than expected, predicting that the Fed will only cut interest rates by 0.25 percentage points between now and the end of 2025.
Another positive sign is that gold ETFs remain strong. Last week, ETFs absorbed nearly 31 tonnes of gold, worth about $3 billion, according to the World Gold Council. This was the eighth consecutive week of net purchases, with North American funds accounting for the majority of the inflows. The two largest funds, SPDR and GLDM, added $3.75 billion and $1.25 billion, respectively, reflecting investors’ strong confidence in the long-term prospects of the precious metal.
Not only gold, other precious metals also recorded slight increases. Silver prices increased 0.3% to 33.10 USD/ounce, platinum increased 0.2% to 974.65 USD/ounce, and palladium also increased 0.2% to 953.53 USD/ounce.
