In the early days of Spring, Ha Nam welcomes tens of thousands of tourists to visit and worship at historical sites and scenic spots. Some tourist attractions such as Cay Thi Pagoda, Dia Tang Phi Lai Pagoda, and Lanh Giang Temple attract a large number of visitors, leading to the development of surrounding food and beverage services.
To ensure food safety and hygiene, the health sector has coordinated with functional units to conduct inspections and supervision at tourist areas and spots since the beginning of the year.
In the area of Dia Tang Phi Lai Pagoda (Liem Son Commune, Thanh Liem District), since the 3rd day of Tet, many restaurants have sprung up close together, serving fast food and processed foods. The owner of a restaurant here said that all the sausages sold are homemade, ensuring food safety. However, the level of food hygiene and safety of the foods on sale is still difficult to verify.
Although no cases of food poisoning have been recorded, the reality is that many restaurants in tourist areas do not ensure food safety conditions. Food is sold everywhere, of unclear origin, uncovered, and easily contaminated with dirt.
This situation also occurs at Cay Thi Pagoda, where the trading space is more professional but the origin of the food is still difficult to determine. Many tourists wonder whether food safety management in tourist areas is really systematic or not.
Faced with this situation, immediately after the Provincial Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety deployed a plan to ensure food safety during the Lunar New Year and the 2025 Spring Festival season, the Provincial Food Safety Sub-Department coordinated with functional agencies to inspect and supervise food safety at major festivals such as Tam Chuc Festival, Tran Thuong Temple's Food Distribution Festival... During the inspection process, the functional forces combined propaganda and raised awareness of food safety for food service businesses.
Mr. Duong Van Tu, Deputy Head of the Ha Nam Province Food Safety Department, said that good control of food safety in tourist areas and spots at the beginning of the year will contribute to strengthening the beautiful image of Ha Nam tourism today, especially when the province has received valuable tourism awards. In order for food safety to be organized and implemented consistently and effectively in tourist areas and spots, the Department has a plan to monitor and decentralize the management of food safety inspection and supervision activities for localities, medical centers of districts, towns and cities in a clear manner.
During the Lunar New Year alone, Thanh Liem district inspected 25 food businesses and found 9 establishments in violation. In Kim Bang town, the interdisciplinary inspection team inspected 151 food processing and trading establishments and handled 2 establishments in violation.
The 2025 Spring Festival season has only been going on for nearly a month. In order for Ha Nam to become a safe and civilized destination, food safety work needs to continue to be focused on. From now until the end of the 2025 Spring Festival season, the Food Safety Department will continue to coordinate with localities to strengthen inspection and supervision, ensuring proper implementation of the direction of the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Health, contributing to creating a safe and healthy tourism environment for visitors from all over the world.
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Nam, from January 1 to February 16, the number of tourists to Ha Nam reached over 1.27 million, tourism revenue reached over 1,000 billion VND. Of which, domestic visitors reached 1.25 million, international visitors reached 25,400.
Since the beginning of the year, the Department has issued documents directing and guiding tourism businesses, tourist areas and destinations to strictly implement regulations on tourism business conditions, environmental sanitation, food safety, fire and explosion prevention, and disease prevention; upgrading degraded and damaged equipment to ensure conditions for serving tourists, as well as human resources to serve tourists safely and thoughtfully.
