On December 17, the Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center coordinated with the Information Security Association - Southern Branch (VNISA South) to organize the program "Combat drill to ensure network information security in Ho Chi Minh City 2024".
Taking place over 5 days, from December 17 to 21, the live-fire exercise program aims to improve the capacity and skills of detecting and handling incidents for the incident response team, the specialized unit on information security of Ho Chi Minh City.
At the same time, raise awareness and information security skills for IT staff of departments, branches, districts, Thu Duc city, state-owned enterprises, hospitals, etc.
This exercise also aims to detect weaknesses in human resources, technology, and processes to have measures to reinforce, improve, increase the ability to respond quickly, and handle attacks promptly when they occur, as well as increase sharing, learning experiences, and knowledge of ensuring network information security among units of Ho Chi Minh City.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program "Ho Chi Minh City Cyber Security Drill 2024", Mr. Nguyen Duc Chung, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Digital Transformation Center, said that in the current digital era, cyber security is not only a challenge but also a foundation for sustainable development.
Technological advances are changing the way we live, work and connect, but with them come increasingly sophisticated risks that we need to face. That is why today's live-fire exercise is of great significance to Ho Chi Minh City.

However, in the first half of this year alone, at least four large enterprises in Vietnam became victims of ransomware, causing service disruptions and affecting finances and reputation.
In the first 8 months of 2024, the Department of Information Security recorded, counted and handled 4,029 cyber attacks in Vietnam. These figures reflect the urgency of ensuring network safety and security, a vital factor for the success and sustainability of the digital transformation process in organizations and businesses nationwide.

At the Ho Chi Minh City Data Center, this unit recorded 57,586,971 information security incidents in the first 9 months of 2024. Accordingly, 768,325 policy violation events, 56,811,589 information collection attack events and more than 7,000 malware infection and dissemination attack events.
The exercise content includes theory and practice, setting up simulated attack and defense situations on the Cyber Range simulation field, including 3 scenarios.
Scenario 1: Combating Ransomware attacks on critical infrastructure.
Scenario 2: Supply chain attack prevention operations.
Scenario 3: Identify and prevent phishing and social engineering attacks.
The closing ceremony of the program "Ho Chi Minh City Cyber Security Exercise 2024" took place on the afternoon of December 24.
