On February 23, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , a representative of Lam Dong General Hospital said that the hospital has adjusted the process of receiving examinations and returning results at the imaging diagnostics department after an incident of wrongful cystoscopy for a patient due to the wrong return of X-ray results.

After the wrongful surgery: Hospital changes diagnostic imaging procedures

Specifically, Lam Dong General Hospital has revised the patient identification process to ensure the correct patient and correct results. Accordingly, from the stage of receiving patients to the stage of taking patients to the imaging room, they must ask the patient or their family about their personal information to ensure that there is no case of holding patient A's records but taking patient B into the imaging area.

According to the hospital representative, the incident occurred during the stage of receiving patient information in the wrong order, leading to the results of one patient being entered into another patient's records. In this incident, the hospital also acknowledged that the doctors involved promptly resolved the consequences and did not conceal the incident.

As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , on February 20, Mr. NHH went to Lam Dong General Hospital for examination and treatment.

Here, the doctors asked the patient to have an X-ray.

After receiving the results, the doctors informed Mr. H. that there was a tube-shaped string in his abdomen and advised him to do an endoscopy to remove the string.

When receiving the X-ray results, Mr. H. was very surprised and said that he had had kidney surgery before and had annual check-ups, so it was impossible for a tube to suddenly appear in his body.

However, after receiving advice from a doctor at Lam Dong General Hospital, the couple agreed to have an endoscopy to remove the foreign object, a plastic tube, from their stomach.

According to Lam Dong General Hospital, when performing an endoscopy, it was discovered that there was no tube thread in Mr. H's abdomen.

The doctor took Mr. H. for another X-ray and discovered that the imaging department had mistakenly given the results of another patient.

Immediately after discovering the error, the doctor performing the endoscopy invited patient NTT, who actually had a foreign object in his bladder, to return for a re-examination and perform an endoscopy to remove the foreign object.

Lam Dong General Hospital added that hospital leaders visited and apologized to the patient and his family. The patient accepted the hospital's apology.

The endoscopy was non-invasive and did not cause any consequences, so the patient's family did not request compensation, except for asking the hospital to continue monitoring until they were sure there were no consequences from the mistaken endoscopy.

Lam Dong Provincial Department of Health said it will work with Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital and review the process of receiving medical examination and treatment records not only in the diagnostic imaging department but also in other departments.

Lam Dong General Hospital also confirmed that there was a mistake in returning X-ray results that led to the wrong treatment of two patients. However, the hospital's medical team only performed an endoscopy procedure, not surgery as previously reported.
