Nghe An coach Nguyen Huy Hoang resigned, allowing Phan Nhu Thuat to take over and lead Song Lam Nghe An Club.
Coach Huy Hoang met with the leaders of Song Lam Nghe An Club (SLNA) this morning, June 3, two days after the 0-3 loss at Viettel in round 10 of V-League 2023. The coach born in 1981 asked for leave and was approved.
Coach Huy Hoang withdrew due to SLNA's poor performance in the 2023 season. The team stopped right in the National Cup qualifying round when they lost to the First Division club Quang Nam 3-4 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regular time. In the V-League, SLNA also won only one match after 10 rounds, falling to 11th place with 10 points.
"I hope SLNA will have better results in the future. I hope everyone will support and assist the new coach and coaching staff so that they can complete their tasks," coach Huy Hoang said at the meeting this morning.
Coach Huy Hoang answered the press conference after SLNA lost 0-1 to Nam Dinh at Thien Truong Stadium on April 11.
Huy Hoang grew up in the SLNA training center, playing for the first team for 15 years, from 1998 to 2013. After that, he played for Can Tho from 2013-2014, then retired and returned to work as a youth coach for his hometown team. Huy Hoang was promoted to assistant coach in the first team in 2019, then became head coach two years later.
SLNA is the fourth team in V-League to change coach in the 2023 season, after Binh Duong, Hanoi Police and Da Nang.
The person chosen to replace Huy Hoang is Coach Phan Nhu Thuat. He was born in 1984, and was once a talented midfielder who was considered the "new Nguyen Hong Son" of Vietnamese football. Nhu Thuat was once considered by Nghe An football people to be more talented than Pham Van Quyet, when he excelled in the U16 Vietnam team and reached the semi-finals of the U16 Asia in 2000. But for many behind-the-scenes reasons, he became a "flower that soon withered". Nhu Thuat worked as a youth coach for SLNA in 2013 and was later promoted to assistant to the first team.
"I would like to thank the team's Board of Directors for their trust and assignment. My team and I will do our best to help the team progress," Coach Nhu Thuat said when taking on the role of SLNA head coach.
Coach Nhu Thuat also proposed a team of assistants including Pham Van Quyen, Pham Duc Anh, Dinh Van Dung and Pham Van Tuan.
Coach Nhu Thuat will debut in his new position on June 6, when SLNA hosts Ho Chi Minh City in round 11 of V-League 2023.
