BHG - "Using culture to develop tourism, using tourism to preserve culture", practice has proven that the above policy is very correct and accurate in the tourism development strategy of Dong Van district in recent years.

As the core district of the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark with many famous landmarks, relics, and landscapes, along with diverse ethnic cultures. The Resolution of the Dong Van District Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term determined to focus on developing tourism into a spearhead economic sector of the district, building Dong Van into a tourist center associated with preserving the province's ethnic culture; developing tourism products, tourism infrastructure, and services is one of the three strategic breakthroughs of the term... To realize the above goal, the Dong Van District Party Committee issued Resolution No. 09-NQ/HU dated April 4, 2021 on preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, building the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, associated with tourism development in the 2021-2025 period.

With the consistent viewpoint of "Cultural development must be associated with tourism, using culture to develop tourism and using tourism to preserve and promote cultural values; making culture a driving force, a human resource to promote tourism development...". Dong Van district has done a good job of preserving, promoting and effectively exploiting tangible and intangible cultural values, building tours that combine visiting relics and heritages with experiencing customs, habits and lifestyles of ethnic groups through traditional festivals such as: Gau tao, Khen Mong (Mong ethnic group); going to the fields, worshiping the forest god (Pu Peo, Co Lao ethnic groups); worshiping ancestors (Lo Lo ethnic group)... In particular, in 2022 and 2023, 2 heritages: Folk knowledge of traditional crafts "Decorative art on costumes of the black Lo Lo people" in Lung Cu commune; Social customs and beliefs of the Forest Worshiping Ceremony of the Co Lao people in Sinh Lung commune of Dong Van district were included in the list of national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Along with that, the district continues to maintain and improve the quality of typical cultural tourism villages in the area; the whole district has 8 provincial-level community tourism spots recognized by the Provincial People's Committee. Improve the activities of 9 craft villages producing local specialties such as: Weaving linen, weaving drumsticks, making Mong pipes, silver carving... Maintain and affirm the brand of some typical and famous agricultural products such as: Lung Phin snow Shan tea, Mint honey, fermented bean curd, black chicken, dried beef, smoked pork and products from buckwheat seeds... to serve tourism. Dong Van Ancient Town is built as a walking city with many activities to serve the needs of visitors on weekend evenings such as: Folk games of playing volleyball, weeding grass; folk dancing, campfire... Build a cultural space of the market associated with tourism development at the district's central market, Lung Phin, Sa Phin, and Pho Cao communes.

In addition to the tourism products that have affirmed their brand, Dong Van district has simultaneously deployed the construction of tourism infrastructure works to preserve, promote and develop the fine traditional values of the ethnic groups in the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark, such as the welcome gates of communes, residential areas and residential houses in the district, which are being rebuilt by localities and people according to the traditional architecture of the Mong people with wooden pillars (or concrete painted to imitate wood) and yin-yang tiled roofs combined with stone fences, creating a beautiful impression and curiosity to learn, explore and experience for visitors. Or the model of a giant bamboo and rattan woven Mong flute in the area of the holy well; The district's typical product exhibition house in Dong Van Ancient Town and some works at the northernmost point, Lung Cu commune, or in Lao Xa village, Sung La commune, Thien Huong banyan tree cluster... In addition, some communes and towns organize folk art exchange programs on weekend evenings to serve the cultural needs of the people and provide experiences for tourists such as in Pho Bang town and Ma Le commune...

Comrade Nguyen Van Hanh, Head of the Department of Culture and Information of Dong Van district, said: The parallel tasks and goals set out in the work of preserving and promoting the unique cultural identity of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development in the district have been implemented drastically, methodically and with a roadmap, achieving clear results. Dong Van's tourism brand with its own identities has left a good impression in the hearts of tourists. The number of tourists, especially international visitors to the district is increasing. In 2024, the total number of visitors reached over 805,000, of which nearly 329,000 were international visitors. Total revenue from tourism reached over 800 billion VND. The first quarter of 2025 reached nearly 250,000 visitors, an increase of over 10% over the same period last year.
