According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Association (VPSA), in 2024, Europe warned 77 cases about pepper and spices imported from markets, down 2 cases compared to 2023.
However, Vietnam recorded the highest number of warnings with 21 cases, a 7-fold increase compared to 2023.
Chili peppers were the most warned product with 11 warnings; cinnamon had 7 warnings, of which 3 were for lead residues; pepper had 1 warning for Salmonella bacteria. After Vietnam was India with 16 cases, Indonesia had 8, China had 4…
Similarly, in the US market, Vietnamese spices recorded 15 warnings, of which 6 cases were for cinnamon (3 times higher than 2 cases in 2023).
Exporting enterprises need to be careful not to be warned, because similar incidents affect the reputation of Vietnamese export goods.
