A Google representative later confirmed that the company was testing the limit with some accounts in Australia, Germany and Thailand.
Recently, some users reported discovering YouTube's new subscription package. Later, the company representative also confirmed that it was testing a limit on some accounts in Australia, Germany, and Thailand.
As described, the Premium plan is ad-free, but users may see ads on music content, Shorts, and non-interruptive ads when users search and browse information.
Previously, the Premium Lite plan was also tested in Europe in 2021 but then removed the option completely in October 2023. This plan has the benefit of removing all ads, not offering offline viewing or background viewing options like the regular Premium.
It is known that the new advertising package in Australia will cost 9 USD/month, half the price of the regular Premium package (17 USD).
YouTube started to take a strong stance on ad blocking applications from June 2023. If users do not want to watch ads, they can pay to buy Premium or watch the first few seconds before being able to skip the ad.
The launch of the new plan is said to be a solution to help Google attract more payments after taking drastic measures to ban users from using ad blockers.
When the survey was conducted, only 12% of respondents said they would buy YouTube Premium and 11% would stop blocking ads. Of which, the price under $5 accounted for 23%, 14% suggested a price under $10. It is known that in the US, the service is currently priced at $14/month.
In Vietnam, YouTube Premium costs VND79,000/month for individual users and VND149,000/month for families with up to 5 members and VND49,000/month for students.
