According to the People's Committee of Tan Hong district, One Commune One Product (OCOP) is a program to develop the rural economy in the direction of developing internal resources and increasing value; it is an important solution and task in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development for the period 2021 - 2025. In particular, the OCOP Program promotes the development of small-scale industry and services in the locality, especially in rural areas. Developing OCOP products aims to unleash the potential and advantages of rural areas, increase people's income, and contribute to continuing to restructure the agricultural sector in association with the development of small-scale industry, occupations, services and rural tourism.
At the same time, promote sustainable rural economic development on the basis of enhancing the application of digital transformation and circular economy, preserving cultural values, managing resources, conserving biodiversity, landscapes and rural environment, contributing to building new rural areas in depth, effectively and sustainably.
To concretize the programs and plans of the province, Tan Hong district actively participates in the OCOP Program for the period of 2021 - 2025 with many specific tasks. First of all, the locality strengthens extensive information and propaganda work, in many forms suitable to the practical conditions of communes and towns. From there, people understand the purpose and meaning of the OCOP Program and actively participate.
The departments, branches, sectors, socio-political organizations of the district and the People's Committees of communes and towns have identified their roles, functions, and tasks to coordinate in implementing the OCOP Program to achieve and exceed the targets according to the plan. In 2024, Tan Hong district has 14 products of 11 entities participating in the OCOP product classification evaluation competition. Of which, there are 10 new products, 3 products re-evaluated according to regulations, and 1 product competing to upgrade the OCOP star rating.
As a result, the OCOP product classification evaluation council of Tan Hong district assessed that there were 10 new products that achieved 52 - 60 points (3 stars), achieving 200% of the action commitment plan with the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; 3 products that were re-evaluated and recognized achieved 58 - 60 points (3 stars) and 1 product that was upgraded to the OCOP star level achieved 79 points. Tan Hong district has completed the documents to send to the OCOP product classification evaluation council of the province for consideration and evaluation of the recognition of the products according to regulations.
Currently, all communes and towns in Tan Hong district have OCOP products with 3 stars or more, bringing the total number of OCOP products to 26 products, of which 24 OCOP products have 3 stars and 2 products have 4 stars. Specifically, Sa Rai town has 4 OCOP products with 3 stars or more from 3 entities including: Nam Huong Mica Star Apple of Nam Huong Ecological Garden business household; Nam Huong Ecological Garden tourist destination of Nam Huong Ecological Garden business household; rice paper of Nam Hung Rice Paper Production Facility business household; Phuong Trang buffalo jerky of Phuong Trang buffalo jerky business household.
Similarly, Tan Ho Co commune has 4 OCOP products achieving 3 stars from 2 entities: Snakehead fish sausage, field crab sausage of Ba Khia dried fish production facility; grilled sausage, bamboo tube stuffed sausage of Ba Khia Foods Company Limited. In addition, Tan Cong Chi commune has 5 OCOP products achieving 3 stars from 2 entities including: Multi-purpose tamarind with seeds, multi-purpose tamarind without seeds, char siu beef jerky (instant), 1-sun dried buffalo jerky of Tan Hong business household; snakehead fish jerky of Ngoc Dung dried fish business household.
Tan Hong district is continuing to accelerate the process of organizing and reorganizing production in conjunction with the task of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development with solutions and plans to transform production structure in accordance with the ecological conditions of each region, adapting to climate change. In addition, focusing on developing production according to value chains, joint ventures, and linkages to support production with large-scale consumption of commodities, practicing good agricultural production, and applying high technology in agriculture to increase production value and income for people, especially effectively implementing the OCOP Program to promote internal resources and increase the value of agricultural, non-agricultural, and service products with advantages in each locality.
