Maximum support for OCOP products
In order to develop and standardize potential and advantageous products in the district associated with linking product consumption to create a strong change in rural economic development, the Standing Committee of Son Dong District Party Committee issued a Resolution on building typical, potential, advantageous products and OCOP products in the district for the period 2021-2025.
Next, the People's Council of Son Dong district passed and issued a Resolution regulating the support mechanism for OCOP products. Accordingly, 3-star OCOP products will receive a maximum support of no more than 100 million VND/product; 4-star OCOP products will receive a maximum support of no more than 150 million VND/product; 5-star OCOP products will receive a maximum support of no more than 250 million VND/product.
Based on natural conditions and development potential, every year, 17/17 communes and towns develop plans to implement the Resolution of the Standing Committee of the District Party Committee. Through surveys and registrations, there are 10 potential and strong products that can be developed into OCOP products. The district's specialized agencies have developed projects to support production development to promote potential products; implemented scientific and technological tasks to protect collective trademarks for potential and advantageous products, OCOP products.
To date, Son Dong has 10 products achieving OCOP 3 stars or higher, including Tay Yen Tu honey product achieving 4 stars. The district has 6 products registered and protected by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) for trademark and 1 product is awaiting recognition decision. After achieving OCOP, the products have increased in value and the consumption market has also expanded.
Mr. Ngoc Xuan Truong, Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Son Dong district, said that up to now, the district has 10 OCOP products. The investors are very methodical in terms of production process, design, packaging, and traceability. The products are well received by the market, thereby increasing the value of goods, increasing income, and creating jobs for people. For example, xoan oranges, which used to cost 20,000-25,000 VND/kg, when grown according to VietGAP, organic, and OCOP product processes, the price is up to 60,000 VND/kg retail, 40,000 VND/kg wholesale.
Need to promote products
Due to the impact of the epidemic, input material prices have increased, directly affecting the production of OCOP entities. According to the assessment of the district's Department of Agriculture, although positive results have been achieved, in general, Son Dong has not attracted many businesses to invest in joint ventures and partnerships with cooperatives and business households to consume products; cooperatives have not found stable outputs for their products, so production is still fragmented, not daring to invest in expanding production scale and upgrading products.
The subjects lack knowledge and experience in production and sales, market research, especially sales on e-commerce platforms; there are few points of display and sale of products; have not built a website to introduce OCOP products; no OCOP products have been exported.
In 2023, Son Dong determined that along with introducing, promoting, and connecting the consumption of OCOP products associated with tourism development, it will continue to support and guide subjects to complete the application dossier for evaluation and classification of 7 new products, striving to have 20 OCOP products in the whole district by 2025.
To achieve the set goals, the People's Committee of Son Dong district determined to synchronously deploy solutions, assign the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to organize training courses, study tours, exchange experiences in management and development of OCOP products in and outside the province for specialized departments, leaders, and officers in charge of OCOP products in communes and towns.
Coordinate with specialized agencies to guide entities to complete documents, standardize products, advise on stamps, labels, packaging, design, product stories, introduce reputable consulting and printing units to accompany entities and people.
Subjects need to boldly invest, upgrade packaging, labels, standardize products, design compactly, politely, prioritize environmentally friendly materials, and prices suitable for consumers. Regularly participate in trade promotion conferences, product displays, and exhibitions to find partners and consumer markets, avoiding waiting for state agencies. Choose partners with enough prestige, financial capacity, and influence to participate in production linkages and product consumption through economic contracts.
Mr. Le Duc Thang, Permanent Vice Chairman of Son Dong District People's Committee, said that in addition to improving quality and increasing product value, thereby attracting many participants, the district will focus on small products, put them into the chain, especially medicinal products, associated with customs and practices, including the development of local tourism.
