The Ministry of Transport recently submitted a report on the "Project to study the possibility of forming Mang Den Airport" to the Prime Minister for consideration and approval of adding the Mang Den Airport planning to the master plan for the development of the national airport system in the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050.
The proposed airport location is in Mang Den town, Kon Plong district, about 45 km northeast of Kon Tum city center, about 73 km northeast of Pleiku airport, about 105 km northwest of Phu Cat airport, and about 93 km southwest of Chu Lai airport.

The planned airport area is located entirely on a mountainous area, with an expected area of about 350 hectares; the planned capacity is expected to be about 1 million passengers/year by 2030 (oriented to renovate the chain to exploit beyond capacity for the period after 2030); airport level 4C according to the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization
The preliminary total investment for the construction of Mang Den Airport in the first phase is nearly 5,000 billion VND. This investment capital is expected to be mobilized from the state budget for site clearance work of nearly 330 billion VND (accounting for 6.6%); the capital of the investor implementing the project under the public-private partnership (PPP) method is about more than 4,600 billion VND, accounting for about 93.4%.
The payback period for the Mang Den Airport project is expected to be more than 48 years.
According to the calculation of Kon Tum province, the scale of tourists to Mang Den is forecasted to reach about 2 million visitors by 2030 and 5 million visitors by 2045. The demand for air transport for passengers is mainly tourists to Mang Den with about 90%. In addition, the construction of an airport here is necessary for socio-economic development, national defense - security, and search and rescue.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the main purpose of this airport is to serve the development of Mang Den tourist area, playing an important role in promoting the socio-economic development of the region and locality, especially the tourism and service industries. If Mang Den tourist area is invested in, built and developed according to the planning and plan to create a complete ecosystem of tourism products, the demand for air transport can reach the expected capacity of about 1 million passengers/year.
After the proposal was raised, many readers expressed their agreement and said that building an airport would create more infrastructure to develop Kon Tum's economy, especially the tourism industry when Mang Den is an increasingly attractive destination for tourists.

Currently, although the locality is quite famous, inconvenient transportation is still a barrier that makes many people hesitate to come here. If there is an airport, this limitation will be overcome.
