According to the decision of the Minister of Transport, Lien Khuong airport (Lam Dong province) serves regular and irregular international and domestic flights, private aircraft, military aircraft and other types of aircraft when licensed for operation by competent authorities.
Lien Khuong Airport is currently a level 4D airport according to the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This airport has a runway 3,250m long, 45m wide, meeting the exploitation of code D aircraft such as Boeing B757, Airbus A300 and equivalent or lower.
In recent years, although still a domestic airport, Lien Khuong airport has been allowed by the Ministry of Transport to operate many irregular international flights bringing tourists to Lam Dong.
According to the Lien Khuong airport planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Ministry of Transport in May 2024, Lien Khuong airport is an international airport, an airport used jointly by civil and military.
Period 2021 - 2030: Lien Khuong Airport has airport level 4E (according to the standard code of the International Civil Aviation Organization - ICAO) and military airport level II. Capacity of 5 million passengers/year and 20,000 tons of cargo/year.
During this period, Lien Khuong airport operated code C aircraft such as Airbus A320, A321 and code E aircraft such as Boeing B747, B787, Airbus A350 as well as equivalent aircraft.
Vision to 2050: Lien Khuong Airport will still be a 4E airport and a level II military airport, but its operating capacity will be increased to 7 million passengers and 30,000 tons of cargo per year. The airport will be able to handle aircraft types as in the 2021-2030 period.
According to the planning, in the 2021 - 2030 period, Lien Khuong airport will maintain the existing runway configuration with a length of 3,250m, a width of 45m, and a material shoulder width of 7.5m.
The vision for 2050 is to extend the existing runway to the west by 350m to a length of 3,600m and a width of 45m.
Regarding the taxiway system, in the period 2021 - 2030, the taxiway will be planned parallel to the entire length of the existing runway; 3 connecting taxiways and 1 quick exit taxiway will be planned. By 2050, the parallel taxiway will be extended in accordance with the runway extension, and 2 more taxiways will be added.
In the period 2021 - 2030, Lien Khuong airport will expand the aircraft parking lot to accommodate 21 parking positions and have reserves for expansion when needed. The vision to 2050 is to continue expanding the aircraft parking lot to accommodate 27 parking positions and have reserves for expansion when needed.
According to the plan, in the 2021 - 2030 period, Lien Khuong airport's T1 passenger terminal with a capacity of 2 million passengers/year will be kept intact, and a new T2 passenger terminal with a capacity of about 3 million passengers/year will be planned.
Vision to 2050, expand passenger terminal T2 so that the total capacity of the entire airport reaches about 7 million passengers/year; reserve land for development when needed.
