State funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on July 25-26

The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong with the national mourning ceremony, on July 25-26.
According to a special announcement issued on the afternoon of July 20, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold a state funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The announcement stated that after a period of serious illness, despite the Party, State, professors, and leading doctors' devoted treatment and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 p.m. on July 19, 2024 (June 14, Giap Thin year) at the 108 Military Central Hospital in Hanoi, at the age of 80.

With nearly 60 years of service, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong has made great and especially outstanding contributions to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. He was awarded the Gold Star Order, the 55-year Party membership badge and many other noble Vietnamese and international orders and medals by the Party and the State. The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss to the Party, the State, our people and his family. To express condolences and commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to hold a state funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. The coffin of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will lie in state at the National Funeral House, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi. The funeral will be held at the National Funeral House from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 25 and from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 26. The memorial service will be held from 1:00 p.m. on July 26 at the National Funeral House. The burial will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi. The funeral and memorial services for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the same time at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at his hometown in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. Vietnam Television and Voice of Vietnam will broadcast live the funeral, memorial and burial services for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. During the two days of national mourning, agencies, offices and public places will fly flags at half-mast and no public entertainment activities will be organized.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was born on April 14, 1944; hometown: Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. Permanent residence: No. 5 Thien Quang street, Nguyen Du ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi. Joined work on December 5, 1967; joined the Party on December 19, 1967. Work history:December 1967: He worked as an officer of the Documentation Department of the Study Magazine (now the Communist Magazine). On December 19, 1967, he was admitted to the Communist Party of Vietnam. August 1968 - August 1973: He worked as an editor of the Communist Magazine; went on field trips to Thanh Oai district, Ha Tay province (now Hanoi); worked as Secretary of the Youth Union of the Communist Magazine. September 1973 - April 1976: He was a postgraduate student in the Faculty of Economics and Politics at the Nguyen Ai Quoc High-Level Party School (now the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics).
