Recently, many people have used gifts with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology chips, helping to create unique gifts and surprise the recipient.

Special gift from simple item

On her recent birthday, little girl Ha My (7th grade student, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) received a very simple gift from her parents: a sticker to stick on her favorite places. “I stuck it on my school bag.

When I touch my mom's phone to the sticker, I can watch the birthday clip that my parents recorded for me. Every time I watch it, I feel very happy because it feels like my parents are always by my side. My friends also love it, everyone compliments this gift as both unique and cute," My shared.

The gift giver and the recipient are happy when their gift is well received. On the occasion of the recent Mid-Autumn Festival, Ms. Thu Minh (a primary school teacher in Thu Duc City) decided to buy NFC stickers to give to the students in her class. The retail price of each sticker is less than 50,000 VND.

“Instead of the usual gifts, I installed fairy tales that I recorded myself inside the stickers. The children just need to use their parents’ phones to touch the stickers and they can listen to them anytime. Seeing the children excitedly touch the stickers to listen to the stories makes me very happy,” teacher Minh excitedly said.

Experiencing the NFC keychain received from a friend, Mr. Trung Kien (an office worker in District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) felt the specialness of the gift. “Simply because it is very convenient, can store personal messages and easily share with others. At first, I thought it was just a small gift, but when I used it, I found it had its own value, can update the content at any time,” said Mr. Kien.

Enhance everything with NFC technology

Not only applied to gifts, many shop owners and businesses have tried to upgrade their products and services by using "delicious, nutritious, cheap" NFC technology.

Mr. Hoang Tam (owner of a coffee shop in Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) has tried using NFC cards for his regular customers. “Many customers are excited that they can receive information about the menu and new promotions of the shop just by touching their phones,” Mr. Tam said.

Similarly, this year's Tet calendars of HPT Information Technology Company have a big difference when integrated with NFC chip. Mr. Le Hoang Nhut Nam, director of the above unit, said that many people were impressed and interested when hearing the stories behind each picture in the HPT calendar.

Recently, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center launched the project "The Archaeological Capital" with unique collectible toys, combining the cultural heritage of the ancient capital, the "blind box art toy" trend and the Nomion identification technology solution with NFC chip in the digital physical field.

The toys are hidden treasures modeled after the four treasures of the ancient capital of Hue. The treasures are completely hidden in a plaster chest contained in a paper box, forming the blind box “The Imperial Capital Archaeology”. Users will have to “dig” by breaking the outer plaster layer to unexpectedly receive a gift of one of the above treasures.

More specifically, each treasure is equipped with an NFC identification chip, allowing toy collectors to use smartphones (with NFC reading chips, similar to reading citizen identification cards) to scan and discover information about the treasure such as its current condition, interesting and useful historical stories related to the antique, information about the project, etc. Users can also collect or give as interesting gifts in the form of "blind boxes" following the current trend.

Business development opportunities

Mr. Hoang Viet Trung, Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, assessed the above project as a typical step in preserving, promoting and strongly spreading the values of the nation’s thousand-year-old cultural and historical heritage. Viewers, students and visitors can approach historical stories and traditional cultural values in a vivid and easy-to-understand way.

Start-up Phygital Labs, a partner of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center, is the provider of Nomion identification technology solutions used in the products of "The Archaeological Capital".

This is a bridge solution connecting physical products and digital spaces, using short-range wireless connection technology between devices to exchange data to increase interaction both directly and in the digital environment, creating a seamless personalized experience.

Assessing the potential application of NFC technology, Mr. Le Hoang Nhut Nam said that the NFC market is still in the early stages of development. NFC has outstanding advantages such as higher authentication and security capabilities than QR codes.

The NFC chip tapping experience is also more appealing because it is natural, without the need for an intermediary application like QR or a separate reader like RFID. Moreover, new phone lines today all support NFC.

“NFC has great potential for expansion. I believe that in the future NFC can become an effective alternative in some applications that QR codes or RFID cannot fully meet,” Mr. Nam commented.

NFC Gift Trends

The NFC gift market in Vietnam is forecast to grow strongly from 2024-2027, bringing great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to build creative brands. Ms. Hoang Huong, Phygital Labs product director, shared:

“We want to innovate the gift industry in Vietnam, combining technology and emotions to build sustainable relationships between brands and customers. Nomion solution not only helps businesses optimize costs and create unique experiences for customers and turn gifts into storytelling tools, but also gives businesses prominence, affirming creativity and pioneering in the digital age.”
