The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway is in its final stages, requiring contractors to proactively secure materials, increase equipment, machinery, and workers to ensure the construction proceeds according to the approved schedule.
On March 21st, the My Thuan Project Management Board inspected and urged the progress of construction and the implementation of the pilot project of forced loading using heavy trucks on the North-South Expressway project, phase 2021-2025, Can Tho - Ca Mau section.
Construction work on the IC2 interchange is part of the Can Tho -Hau Giang component project.
According to the My Thuan Project Management Board, the overall project construction progress has reached 62.1%. Contractors have treated weak soil using the preloading method for more than 84.21 km. This includes over 32.61 km of the Can Tho - Hau Giang section and over 51.6 km of the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section.
Regarding bridges, 63 bridges have had their decks completed, of which 12 are open for technical traffic.
The My Thuan Project Management Board and contractors are striving to complete the concrete paving of the remaining 34 bridges by April 30th.
For the main route, the preloading work will be basically completed in March 2025, and the first section will begin to be unloaded. From there, contractors will proceed with the phased construction of the road surface structure in parallel with the unloading of the sections. The entire main route will be completed by December 31st.

Simultaneously, overtime and shift work will be organized to complete the asphalt paving, expansion joints, and bridge abutment construction on the bridges along the route, ensuring the goal of opening the entire main route by April 30th. For sections that are ready for load removal, construction will be carried out in a phased manner, completing the road foundation and surface construction while simultaneously finishing the traffic safety system and median strips.
Regarding the pilot project for forced loading using heavy truck convoys, the My Thuan Project Management Board stated that it will continue to coordinate with the project planning unit, the supervisory unit, and the pilot construction unit to review the pilot results and submit a report to the Ministry of Construction.
Construction began in January 2023. The project is currently in an accelerated phase to achieve its target completion date in 2025, as directed by the Prime Minister.
