Deputy Head of Gia Lai Provincial Party Organization Committee proposed to be expelled from the Party

The Gia Lai Provincial Party Executive Committee held a meeting on May 17 to handle work within its authority and unanimously voted to expel Mr. Huynh Van Tam from the Party.

Previously, Gia Lai Provincial Inspectorate pointed out many violations in the "Project to build software and database to manage cadres, civil servants and public employees in the province" invested by Gia Lai Department of Home Affairs.

Accordingly, the Department of Home Affairs was granted 2 billion VND to implement the above project. This department selected the branch of Software Development and Transfer Company Limited to win the bid to supply software with the amount of 979 million VND. The consulting unit supervising the software construction and equipment installation is the Information Technology and Communications Center of Gia Lai province.

However, according to the Provincial Inspectorate, the project could not be used but the Gia Lai Department of Home Affairs still accepted and paid the contractor, causing a loss and waste of 979 million VND of the budget.

In addition, during his time as Director of the Department of Home Affairs, Mr. Huynh Van Tam signed 16 authorizations to transfer budget money to the personal account of Ho Quang Thi - former Accountant of the Gia Lai Department of Home Affairs, creating conditions for Mr. Thi to embezzle assets and appropriate 540 million VND.

Mr. Thi was then arrested and detained for investigation on the charge of “embezzlement of property”. Mr. Tam was prosecuted for “irresponsibility causing serious consequences” and was also subject to preventive measures of being prohibited from leaving his place of residence.

The Steering Committee for Anti-Corruption and Negativity of Gia Lai province directed to bring the case to trial in March 2023. However, based on the documents, the Provincial People's Court returned the file, requesting an investigation to change the charges against Mr. Tam.
