“The Tunnel: Sun in the Dark” by director Bui Thac Chuyen is the most anticipated movie in Vietnamese theaters this April. This is a rare war-historical film that does not use the state budget, released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

According to the schedule, “Tunnel: Sun in the Dark” will officially be released to audiences nationwide from April 4. The film is expected to have early screenings at 7 p.m. on April 2-3 at 24 CGV cinemas, 22 Galaxy cinemas and several other cinemas in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Vinh, etc.

“Tunnels: Sun in the Dark” is set in 1968 when the resistance war against America was at its peak, reflecting the brave and courageous spirit of the Cu Chi guerrillas.

Thai Hoa plays Tu Dap, the main character in the film. He shared that he accepted the role because the script was touching, and at the same time, he had a close connection because his wife's grandfather had fought in this land.

Supporting actors include Ho Thu Anh (film "Saigon in the rain"), Quang Tuan (Ghost Dog), Anh Tu Wilson (Rom) and Diem Hang Lamoon... Actor Quang Tuan once worked with director Bui Thac Chuyen in the psychological film "Glorious Ashes," co-starring with Phuong Anh Dao.

Director Bui Thac Chuyen has been nurturing and preparing for the film project "Tunnels" for 10 years after making a 10-minute short film on this topic. The feature-length film script was written in 2014, then continued to be revised many times before being officially completed.

The film crew rented 7 hectares of forest to recreate the scene of the forest burned and devastated by bombs. The tunnels were assembled piece by piece to serve the filming. Many weapons and armored vehicles used by the US in the war also appeared in the film.

“Tunnel: Sun in the Dark” was filmed in the first half of 2024, and is a rare historical-revolutionary film that mobilizes social capital. Businessman Nguyen Thanh Nam (FPT Group) is one of the investors in the project, and believes that investing in history is a worthwhile investment, believing that what has been experienced will not be lost, but will remain with the passion.
