According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in July 2024, Vietnam's rice exports reached 751,093 tons, equivalent to 451.77 million USD, up 46.3% in volume and 39.7% in value compared to June 2024.

In the first 7 months of 2024, rice exports increased by 8.3% in volume and 27.7% in value, with an output of nearly 5.3 million tons, equivalent to nearly 3.34 billion USD. The average export price of rice in the past 7 months reached 630.2 USD/ton, up 18% over the same period.

The market that buys the most Vietnamese rice is the Philippines. In the past 7 months, businesses have exported more than 2.31 million tons, worth over 1.42 billion USD to this market, up 19.4% in volume and 44.4% in value.

Rice exports to Indonesia ranked second, reaching 778,692 tons, equivalent to 481.69 million USD, up 29.2% in volume, up 60.9% in value, accounting for 14.7% of the total volume and 14.4% of the total rice export turnover of the country.

The Malaysian market also increased its purchase of Vietnamese rice, with 7-month export output to Malaysia reaching 529,730 tons, equivalent to 314.18 million USD, up 129.3% in volume and 176.6% in value.

Rice export prices to these key markets have increased sharply in the past 7 months. Specifically, the export price to the Philippines reached 615 USD/ton, up 21%, Indonesia reached 618.6 USD/ton, and Malaysia had an average price of 593 USD/ton.

The Philippines is a major rice consumer and one of the world's top rice importers. Over the years, the Philippines' annual rice imports have remained high, reaching a record 3.82 million tons in 2022.

In 2023, the Philippines' total rice imports will reach 3.6 million tons, down 5.9% from 2022. And in 2024, the country's rice imports could be the highest ever.

For many years, this country has been the leading importer of rice from our country. Last year, Vietnam exported 3.1 million tons of rice to the Philippines, worth 1.75 billion USD; Indonesia is the second largest importer of Vietnam with an output of more than 1.1 million tons of rice, worth more than 640 million USD.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that in 2024, rice production is estimated to reach about 43.4 million tons of paddy (down about 35,000 tons), of which the total export volume is estimated to reach about 7.6 million tons.

With abundant export orders, stable rice production, and rising export rice prices, rice export revenue for the whole year of 2024 is forecast to exceed 5 billion USD.
