In 2020, on an area of 4 hectares of ineffective rice cultivation, Mr. Le Van Lam's family in Hoang Dao commune (Hoang Hoa) converted to a seedless lemon growing model. Thanks to the application of new scientific and technical advances in production in a safe and organic direction, the seedless lemon tree has initially brought high economic efficiency.
The seedless lemon model of Mr. Le Van Lam's family, Hoang Dao commune (Hoang Hoa) brings high economic efficiency.
Mr. Le Van Lam said: “To achieve this result, my wife and I had to go through many failed experiments from one model to another. When we went to the South to learn about the seedless lemon model, we found that it is an easy-to-grow plant that is not picky about soil and produces fruit all year round, so I decided to invest. The land does not fail the people, and up to now, the model has brought a stable income to the family.”
Through conversation, it is known that Mr. Lam has skillfully applied the knowledge he learned along with his experience to plan the planting area, planting trees in rows and beds with a density of 400 lemon branches/ha. Seedless lemon trees are planted within 18 months to bear fruit and produce fruit all year round; on average, seedless lemon trees only age after more than 10 years. It is estimated that each lemon tree produces more than 1,000 fruits, an average of about 50 - 70kg/tree/year. The selling price at the garden ranges from 35,000 - 45,000 VND/kg. Currently, Mr. Lam's lemon garden is harvested once a month, with a yield of 1.2 - 1.5 tons of fruit/month, bringing in an income of more than 200 million VND/year.
To ensure the quality of the lemons, Mr. Lam fertilized them with organic fertilizers and microbial powder. Every 2 to 3 months, he watered the roots of the trees with organic fertilizers once. This has limited the use of chemical fertilizers, increased their resistance to pests and diseases, helped the plants flower and bear more fruit, and improved the quality of agricultural products in a safe way. At the same time, Mr. Lam also invested in installing an automatic irrigation system worth more than 100 million VND so that the plants are always lush and have enough moisture. The irrigation system has many advantages for seedless lemons, such as: helping to evenly irrigate and maintain the necessary moisture in the root area, limiting the growth of weeds, avoiding the risk of clogging during use like watering with a drip system. In particular, Mr. Lam also combined fertilization through the irrigation system, reducing the cost of fertilizing and increasing the efficiency of fertilizer use, optimizing productivity...
To consume a large amount of lemons each harvest, Mr. Lam has connected with traders who come directly to the garden to buy, and has also signed a contract with the Four Seasons Green Agriculture Joint Stock Company (Hanoi) to buy products, so the output and price are relatively stable. In the near future, Mr. Lam's family will cooperate with people in the commune to convert ineffective land areas to grow seedless lemons.
The effectiveness of Mr. Lam's family's seedless lemon growing model shows that farmers are increasingly sensitive to changing suitable crops, increasing income and contributing to the effective implementation of the local agricultural restructuring policy. In the coming time, Hoang Dao commune (Hoang Hoa) will continue to consolidate and exchange plots, creating conditions for households and businesses to invest in growing seedless lemons. Thereby creating a concentrated seedless lemon production area in a safe, organic direction, aiming for export.
