For the national digital transformation to be effective, it requires a methodical strategy and focused implementation. The Government's consistent viewpoint is to put people and businesses at the center, as the goal and driving force.
Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh, Politburo member, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister emphasized this at the 2nd National Forum on Digital Economy and Digital Society Development, which was recently organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with the Central Economic Commission and the People's Committee of Binh Duong province on November 14 in Binh Duong.
Also attending the forum were leaders of ministries, branches and localities: Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Minister of Information and Communications; Mr. Thai Thanh Quy, Deputy Head of the Central Economic Commission; Mr. Nguyen Van Loi, Secretary of Binh Duong Provincial Party Committee...
Attached to the main pillars
Speaking at the forum, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts, determination and positive results achieved by ministries, branches, localities, business communities and people, which have made important contributions to the country's digital transformation.
However, the First Deputy Prime Minister said that it is necessary to be frank and acknowledge that there are still many shortcomings and challenges that need to be further resolved in the coming time. Accordingly, it is necessary to innovate thinking and take actions suitable to practical conditions; effectively implement national digital transformation, associated with the theme of 2024, which is "Developing the digital economy with the pillars of information technology industry, digitalization of economic sectors, digital governance, digital data - an important driving force for rapid and sustainable socio-economic development".
At the same time, promote creativity; mobilize all resources for the development of digital economy and digital society; build culture in a civilized, modern and safe digital environment.
In that spirit, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh requested relevant ministries, agencies and localities to carry out a number of key tasks and solutions. Specifically, it is necessary to raise awareness of the position and importance of national digital transformation and the development of digital economy and social economy. Next, focus on building and perfecting digital institutions and preferential and outstanding policies to promote national digital transformation and the development of digital economy and social economy in a direction consistent with market mechanisms and international practices.
Promote the development of digital technology and high-quality digital data; focus on developing new fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, etc.
In addition, it is necessary to mobilize resources to promote research and development. Promote the development of digital human resources, especially in emerging industries and fields, and a project to develop 50,000 semiconductor workers.
“I believe that with great efforts and drastic actions of the entire political system, organizations, agencies, people and businesses, Vietnam will continue to achieve many breakthrough achievements in developing the economy and society with the motto “Broader - More comprehensive - Faster - Better quality - More practical”, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh stated.
Helping Vietnam stay ahead of technology
At the forum, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that Vietnam's digital economic growth rate is the fastest in Southeast Asia for two consecutive years (28% in 2022 and 19% in 2023), about 3 times higher than the GDP growth rate.
The Ministry of Information and Communications estimates that the proportion of the digital economy in Vietnam's GDP will reach 16.5% in 2023 and 18.6% in 2024. And we will reach 20% by 2025, fulfilling the goal of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
According to Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, digital transformation is two clearly separate stories, the story of technology and the story of transformation. Of which, transformation is the main one, accounting for 70%. Leaders should not be caught up in technology because this is not the leader's job. Leaders focus on identifying problems, "pain points" of the organization, or a new solution in business, and order the use of digital technology to solve them, and are ready to change processes and operating methods to achieve efficiency, this is the right role of a leader. Once you have the right role and the right job, the job will be much easier.
“In order not to be afraid of digital technology, we should think like a person who knows nothing in order to use it in the best way, because the power of digital technology is unlimited. If you know about technology, it means you only know a part of it and therefore your creative thinking will be limited,” said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.
As a locality with the highest digital transformation speed in the country, Mr. Vo Van Minh, Chairman of Binh Duong Provincial People's Committee shared that the province's new orientation to 2030 and vision to 2045 is to develop a smart urban-industrial ecosystem, in which digital technology, innovation and digital transformation play a core role. This forum is an opportunity for everyone to exchange knowledge and experience on digital transformation and orientations for digital development and digital society for localities.
“We hope to learn from effective models and initiatives to improve digital transformation capacity. The forum will open up many close cooperative relationships, helping Vietnam stay ahead of the technological trends of the times,” said Mr. Vo Van Minh.
