On October 2, in Ho Chi Minh City, CL2B Advisory Vietnam, a circular economy consulting company, coordinated with Vietnam Circular Economy in Action to organize a workshop on “Promoting circular economy in Vietnam”.

The representative of the Organizing Committee said that the report on the current situation and strategy for developing the circular economy in Vietnam shows that Vietnam has initially formed new markets for environmental goods and services, secondary raw materials, environmentally friendly products, green jobs, especially the capital market for the circular economy. By June 2024, the outstanding green credit balance had reached VND 650.3 trillion, with more than 45% for renewable energy projects and nearly 30% for green agriculture. These investments play an important role in promoting circular economy initiatives in many fields. However, the process towards the goal of developing the circular economy is also facing certain difficulties. For example, technical infrastructure has not met actual needs, the legal corridor for these models is not complete, and the awareness of local authorities, businesses, and people is still limited.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa Cuong, Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management (Ministry of Planning and Investment), said that Vietnam has oriented its development towards the circular economy. In recent times, the Government, the Banking sector and other ministries and sectors have also had many solutions to support and encourage development following the circular economy model. However, at present, the orientation towards circular economy development still faces difficulties such as lack of financial resources and low awareness of the people and businesses about the circular economy. In order to strongly develop the circular economy in the coming time, Mr. Nguyen Hoa Cuong recommended that the Government should further strengthen solutions to raise awareness of localities, businesses and people.
