Sustainable tourism development from source market approach

Thanh Hoa's "smokeless industry" is experiencing positive growth, with tourism revenue in the first 6 months of 2024 reaching nearly 20 trillion VND, an increase of 30.2% over the same period in 2023. Notably, this growth has a positive contribution from visitors from a number of key tourist destinations across the country.

Sustainable tourism development from source market approach Thanh Hoa Provincial Tourism Association signed a cooperation agreement on tourism development with provinces and cities in the extended Red River Delta (April 2024).

Identifying linkage and cooperation with key domestic tourism localities is one of the important solutions to develop sustainable tourism. Since the beginning of 2024, Thanh Hoa province has organized a variety of tourism promotion activities such as: Ninh Binh - Thanh Hoa - Nghe An - Ha Tinh tourism promotion conference "One journey - Many experiences" (event on the sidelines of the VITM - Hanoi 2024 International Tourism Fair"; Conference on linking tourism development of Thanh Hoa province with the extended Red River Delta provinces, in Bac Giang province; welcoming famtrip and presstrip delegations from provinces and cities from the Northwest and Southeast; promoting Thanh Hoa tourism at major domestic airports and on international television channel CNN; working with representatives of the BBC Group (UK) on the cooperation plan to promote Thanh Hoa tourism in the coming time...

According to the report of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first 6 months of 2024, tourist areas and spots in the whole province welcomed nearly 9.8 million visitors, an increase of 16.1% over the same period in 2023. Total tourism revenue is estimated at 19,848.5 billion VND, an increase of 30.2% over the same period in 2023 and reaching 61.3% of the 2024 plan.

Representatives of some travel agencies in the province commented that the strategy to approach source markets of Thanh Hoa province in the new situation has been and is being implemented in the right direction, bringing clear business efficiency to tourism service enterprises. At the same time, the results achieved in the first half of 2024 had a positive contribution from the tourist market from major domestic sources such as: Hanoi, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City... Director of Vietravel Thanh Hoa branch Tran Thi Nga affirmed: "Since the beginning of the year, the number of visitors from a number of key tourist destinations across the country has grown positively, up about 20% compared to 2023. With the current market demand, especially when Sam Son Water Park has officially opened to welcome guests, not only Vietravel but certainly other travel agencies will exploit a large number of visitors to Thanh Hoa for sightseeing and relaxation from the provinces and cities in the Southeast and some provinces and cities in the North".

According to forecasts, in the last months of the year, the tourist market from key tourist destinations across the country, including the traditional tourist market from the northern provinces and cities to Thanh Hoa will continue to grow positively, especially MICE and resort tourists. Along with that, this year's sea tourism products will extend the exploitation period, for cultural and community ecological tourism products, travel businesses will fully exploit to attract visitors in the last months of the year.

Deputy Director of Le Gia Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company (Thanh Hoa City) Phan Thi Ha said: “Recently, tourists have chosen Thanh Hoa as a favorite destination not only for sea tourism and nature exploration but also for their curiosity about new products and services. Moreover, large-scale and attractive cultural, sports and tourism events have been creating favorable conditions for travel agencies to promote the exploitation of visitors from key tourism markets. With the strategy of renewing existing products and constantly launching new tourism products, Thanh Hoa has become one of the hottest destinations in the North in the last months of the year. Tourism service businesses hope that State management agencies will pay attention to orientation in product development and construction, in order to bring to the market quality and suitable tours and routes that meet the needs of tourists from key tourism destinations that the province is aiming for”.

According to the plan, from now until the end of 2024, Thanh Hoa province will continue to organize tourism development linkage activities with key provinces and cities in tourism development, focusing on Lam Dong province. Along with that, focusing on organizing a number of tourism promotion and promotion activities such as: announcing new tours and tourist routes; welcoming famtrip and presstrip delegations from the Southeast, Central and Central Highlands regions to survey and evaluate tourism products, connecting tours and tourist routes in Thanh Hoa; welcoming famtrip delegations from Asian countries to survey and evaluate products and organize seminars on solutions to attract international tourists to Thanh Hoa, consulting on perfecting tourist routes... Thereby, not only aiming to exploit the source of visitors from key domestic tourism markets but also reaching out to attract international visitors, contributing to sustainable tourism development.
