Green building development is an inevitable trend

On September 26, in Hanoi, within the framework of Vietnam Green Building Week 2024, the Ministry of Construction coordinated with the Hanoi People's Committee (Hanoi City) to co-chair the organization of the "Forum to promote development in Vietnam: Experience and solutions".

Attending the Forum were representatives of leaders of Central Ministries, Departments and Branches; representatives of leaders of Provincial and City People's Committees, local Departments, Departments and Branches; leaders of associations/societies; representatives of international agencies and organizations, experts, scientists and businesses...

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Deputy Minister of Construction Pham Minh Ha said: "Green transformation along with digital transformation is a trend taking place globally and in Vietnam. Green transformation is the process of building an economy with low to very low emissions, achieved through civilized development, economical and efficient use of natural resources.

In particular, green transformation aims to reduce ecosystem degradation and negative impacts on the environment. The main goals of green transformation include increasing energy efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, promoting sustainable use of natural resources, reducing environmental pollution and enhancing social participation".

Green buildings have appeared in Vietnam for more than 15 years and from the first green buildings in Ho Chi Minh City, by mid-2024, Vietnam had nearly 500 green buildings in many provinces and cities across the country... showing that the potential for green building development in Vietnam is still very large...

In addition to the policies of the Party, State, Government and the motivation from international commitments and activities on implementing the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the development of green buildings in Vietnam in recent times has also encountered many difficulties and barriers such as: New green buildings are being implemented in the form of incentives, there are no mandatory regulations, the technical level, technology and financial capacity of investors are still limited, difficulties in accessing green finance sources for green building projects...

The forum heard speakers present experiences and solutions to promote construction development in various types of constructions such as industrial parks, civil works; management of construction investment costs for green works, practical implementation at the provincial and municipal levels with vivid lessons from Hanoi City...

This is also a useful opportunity for stakeholders to exchange and discuss opportunities, challenges, recommendations, and propose contents and solutions to remove barriers to promote green building development in the coming years.

According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan, the Forum is not only an opportunity for experts, managers and businesses to share practical experiences but also a platform to discuss and develop breakthrough solutions and initiatives to bring green building policies into life, contributing to improving the environment and quality of social life.

Vice Chairman Duong Duc Tuan said that the event was an opportunity to affirm the deep interest of the Ministry of Construction and Hanoi City in implementing green and sustainable development programs. Green building development policy is an inevitable trend, requiring the responsibility of each management level and the active participation of the community and businesses.

Through the Forum, the Hanoi People's Committee pledges to continue to accompany central agencies, domestic and foreign partners to promote the urban transformation process, creating a green, smart, sustainable Hanoi...

The Forum's discussion content revolved around issues such as: Green orientation - the future of Vietnam's industrial parks: Role and recommendations for localities; Promoting green buildings, energy-saving buildings in localities: From planning to action; Managing construction investment costs according to green building criteria in Vietnam; Experience in promoting green building development through energy saving programs.

On the sidelines of the Forum, there was a discussion on policies and solutions to promote the development of green buildings and energy saving... with the participation of representatives from the Ministry of Construction, Hanoi Department of Construction, Vietnam Green Building Council, Vietnam Association for Science and Technology for Energy Saving and Efficiency, and Van Phu Invest.
