Veteran Le Truong Than (born in 1947, in Tac Mnga village, Cu Ewi commune) is one of the typical examples of efforts to develop the economy. After joining the army and returning from discharge, although he tried to do business in his hometown Tinh Gia (Thanh Hoa), due to the barren land, he only had enough to eat, without any surplus savings. In 1995, he decided to bring his family to Cu Kuin to start a business.

At first, he encountered many difficulties and was unfamiliar with the soil, climate, and farming practices, so the profit from his family's coffee garden was not high. With the spirit of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", he tried hard to learn and apply science and technology to production. With support from the Veterans Association at all levels in lending capital, his family expanded the cultivation area from 3 sao to 2 hectares with a multi-crop model: coffee, durian, areca, lychee, longan...; the average annual income is nearly 1 billion VND. Not only developing his family's economy, Veteran Le Truong Than also supported capital and shared experiences in caring for plants with other members to develop the economy together and reduce poverty sustainably.

“The District Veterans Association always identifies helping each other develop the economy and reduce poverty as one of the key tasks. We strive to find resources and implement practical activities to support members, especially those in difficult circumstances, helping them to stabilize their lives and contribute to the socio-economic development of the locality…”.

Vice President of Cu Kuin District Veterans Association

Previously, the family of veteran Y Ngoan Nie was a poor household in Ea Khit hamlet (Ea Bhok commune). In 2019, his family received support from the district and commune Veterans Associations for breeding cows, and after only a few years, the cows gave birth to 5 calves. Thanks to that, he had a small amount of capital to invest in intensive garden cultivation, repair auxiliary works for daily life, and improve family life. By the end of 2024, his family had escaped poverty. Veteran Y Ngoan Nie shared: “Thanks to the support of the Veterans Associations at all levels, my family has the conditions to develop the family economy, strive to stabilize life. Escaping poverty, my family is very excited, assured to do business to get better and better.”

Not only the two war veterans Le Truong Than and Y Ngoan Nie, many other war veterans in Cu Kuin district have also become typical examples of overcoming difficulties, developing the economy, and striving to become rich legitimately.

Vice Chairman of the Cu Kuin District Veterans Association Vo Cong Tuong said: The district Veterans Association currently has more than 2,900 members. In order to support members in economic development, especially those in difficult circumstances, the district Veterans Association at all levels has implemented many meaningful and practical activities such as: coordinating with the Social Policy Bank to manage 57 savings groups and preferential loans according to residential areas with 2,454 borrowers (of which 518 borrowers are Veterans Association members), total outstanding loans reached over 120 billion VND. Implementing the program "Comradely affection", the Association bought cows and gave savings books to poor, near-poor, and disadvantaged members; in 2024 alone, the district Veterans Association bought 3 cows and gave savings books worth nearly 79 million VND.
