On December 20, Company 3, Zone 3, Hoa Vang District, Quang Da Province (old) and revolutionary base K20, District 3 (old), now Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City received the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, said that during the two resistance wars, together with the whole country, the army and people of Quang Nam - Da Nang stood side by side, upholding the spirit of daring to fight and determined to win, achieving many feats, including the blood and bones of Company 3 and revolutionary base K20.
Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Nguyen Van Quang awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces to Company 3 and revolutionary base K20.
Company 3, Zone 3 was established on October 1, 1967, with 50 people, mainly relying on the people, using few to fight many. From 1967 to 1975, the unit fought in over 300 battles, notably some typical battles at the 1st Corps Command Headquarters during Tet Mau Than 1968, attacking the Bien bridge checkpoint, the An Nong battle, attacking Nuoc Man airport from Huyen Khong cave, and attacking the Con Quy checkpoint (Hoa Hai).
The K20 revolutionary base in Da Man, My Thi, Ba Da villages, District 3 (formerly, now Khue My Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City), was built by Hoa Vang District Party Committee and Da Nang City during the resistance war against France. District 3 Party Committee continued to develop it from the end of 1964.
From 1964 to 1975, the people built 157 secret tunnels and a complex underground tunnel system, hiding thousands of cadres and soldiers, transporting dozens of tons of weapons, ammunition, hundreds of tons of food, goods and many documents.
The K20 Guerrilla Team alone carried out about 28 battles, notably the explosive raids to destroy military transport ships on March 27, 1965, the raid by the K20 Special Forces Team to destroy spies in Ba Da block on March 1, 1968, the raid by the K20 Special Forces force in coordination with a special force team of Battalion 471 on the motor vehicle park at Tien Sa port on May 14, 1972...
On September 6, 2010, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recognized the K20 base as a national historical relic, and the city built the K20 Traditional House and a tourist relic site.
According to Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, along with receiving the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces, Ngu Hanh Son District needs to have a long-term plan to preserve and effectively promote the historical, cultural and traditional values of the K20 revolutionary base - a national historical relic, so that the place name and the name of Ngu Hanh Son people continue to spread, becoming a valuable revolutionary and cultural historical heritage of Da Nang City and the whole country.
