With smartphones and the creativity of young people, many films about Vietnamese cultural heritage have spread on social networks, attracting tens of millions of viewers.
Cultural heritage cannot exist without technology.
On March 28, 2025, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund and the Department of Cultures of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups, the CDIT Institute of Information and Communications Technology, and the TikTok platform signed a cooperation agreement to preserve and promote the values of Vietnam's cultural heritage on digital platforms.
Through the program "Innovation and Heritage Preservation in the Digital World", the parties will jointly implement activities to bring cultural heritage closer to the younger generation. TikTok will act as a bridge, encouraging users to create content about heritage, combining technology to bring traditional cultural values to life.
The signing event opens up many opportunities for cooperation between the parties, focusing on initiatives such as the hashtag challenge campaign #DiSanVietNam on TikTok, calling on the community to create content about the country's cultural heritage. In addition, there are activities such as experiencing heritage using virtual reality technology, helping users explore landmarks, museums and works of art through digital space.
In particular, guests can also use virtual reality glasses to experience 3D images of prominent heritages such as communal houses, pagodas, or ancient paintings, explore virtual museums, and vividly explore heritage through a set of heritage flash cards integrated with virtual reality (AR) technology... bringing a new experience. Admire traditional cultural heritage with modern technology, for a more intimate and interesting feeling.
Within the framework of the event, speakers discussed ways to bring heritage closer to young people, arouse love for heritage and exploit the potential of technology and digital platforms in connecting young people with traditional culture.
The speakers affirmed that cultural heritage also needs to "live" with the breath of the times and not stop in museums. Therefore, technology is an important factor to bring Vietnamese cultural heritage to the younger generation. Technology is even the "midwife" for content creators to inherit and create content about Vietnamese cultural heritage.
Mr. To Van Dong, Director of the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Fund, said that preserving cultural heritage requires the cooperation of the whole community. Cultural heritage is the soul of the nation in the digital age. Preserving cultural heritage in the digital world to get closer to the community; creating motivation for people to be more proud of traditional cultural values and spreading these values in the digital world.
Games and social networks will spread Vietnamese cultural heritage
At the event, Dr. Nguyen Duc Hoang, Lecturer at the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications, said that it is possible to combine game production and promoting Vietnamese cultural heritage.
"How to use technology to better express the stories and artifacts of Vietnamese cultural heritage, making them more accessible to young people, that is games. Therefore, it is necessary to make simulated game images reach young people. Vietnam has large game companies, if each company puts a little bit of cultural heritage into games, we will have 4 billion game downloads worldwide," said Mr. Hoang.
With the creativity of young people and just a smartphone, many films about cultural heritage have been spread on social networks. Sharing about this issue, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, General Director of TikTok Vietnam, said that heritage and cultural heritage are the crystallization of the value of thousands of years of history. The government has many programs to preserve and develop Vietnamese culture. Modern life is changing people's lifestyles, the time spent on human activities is shortened and simplified; this requires us to preserve traditional cultural values for the younger generation.
According to Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, there are live sessions on TikTok about culture with millions of views, which shows that technology has played the strongest role in spreading culture. However, in the digital space, there is not only good content but also toxic trash. Therefore, TikTok wants to cooperate with heritage agencies to identify goals, which information about heritage needs to be promoted, to reach viewers.
Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh added that many content creators have also created content about traditional culture that has attracted tens of millions of views on social networks. TikTok will join hands with other units to contribute to the preservation of Vietnam's cultural heritage.
Within the framework of the program "Innovation and Heritage Preservation in the Digital World" in 2025, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Preservation Support Fund and TikTok will launch the hashtag challenge campaign #DiSanVietNam, encouraging the participation of content creators and the user community, creating content related to the country's cultural heritage.
In particular, the Vietnam Cultural Heritage Conservation Support Fund and the TikTok platform will coordinate to organize field trips to localities with many unique cultural heritages, to record and create content about the heritage. Accompanying this journey are popular content creators on TikTok such as: Pham Duc Anh (@ducanh94), Giao Cun, Meo Trai Dat, Ninh TiTo, Cee Jay, Manh Tien Khoi, Dinh Trang Thao, Hoang Hon, Tieu Ngao, Cuong Cao...
