On the night of June 23, the Wagner mercenary group launched a major mutiny in Russia, seizing control of the Southern Military District headquarters and many other administrative and military locations in the city of Rostov-on-Don before advancing towards the capital Moscow.
However, just a day later, Wagner tycoon Yevgeny Prigozhin agreed to withdraw troops just 200 kilometers from Moscow, defusing the biggest threat to President Vladimir Putin in his nearly quarter-century in power.
According to the Kremlin, in order to end the uprising, the Russian president personally assured that Mr. Prigozhin would be allowed to leave for neighboring Belarus and that the authorities would drop criminal charges of rebellion against him and his fighters.
Former US President Donald Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social to warn: “Big mess in Russia, but be careful what you wish for. What comes next could be much worse!”
In a post on Truth Social on June 24, Mr. Trump declared: “Mr. Biden will do anything President Xi of China wants him to do regarding Russia,” and also said that Russia and China were enemies “until Biden came along.”

Mr Trump also accused President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, of taking large sums of money from both Russia and China, but that China is currently the bigger threat.
Trump's comments referred to Hunter Biden's business dealings with Ukrainian and Chinese companies that are under investigation amid allegations that President Biden was involved in a bribery scheme while he was vice president.
Mr Trump also mentioned China's desire to have large areas of uninhabited land to accommodate its growing population, arguing that an armed uprising in Russia would create an opportunity for China to seize Russian territory.
“This is an unprecedented opportunity for China, much bigger than Taiwan, that President Xi could have waited for,” Mr. Trump commented.
Mr Trump’s comments came days after Mr Biden called Chinese President Xi Jinping a dictator. The remarks were vehemently rejected by the Chinese government, but Mr Biden dismissed concerns that US-China relations were deteriorating and said he expected to meet with Mr Xi in the near future.
Mr. Trump has asserted that the Russia-Ukraine conflict would not have happened if he were President. He claimed that if he were re-elected and the war between Russia and Ukraine continued, he would be able to end the conflict in 24 hours .
