(CLO) US President Donald Trump on Sunday reaffirmed his desire to "buy and own Gaza", but may allow some Middle Eastern countries to participate in rebuilding this land.
"I am committed to the United States purchasing Gaza and taking ownership of it. As for rebuilding it, we may have other countries in the Middle East build some of it, maybe other countries do it under our supervision. But we are committed to owning Gaza, taking it over and making sure that Hamas does not come back," Trump said aboard Air Force One en route to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.

President Trump also said he was willing to consider accepting some Palestinian refugees into the United States, but would decide on a case-by-case basis.
Ezzat El Rashq, a member of Hamas, has criticised Mr Trump's latest comments about buying and owning Gaza. The group said in a statement: "Gaza is not an asset to be bought and sold. It is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory," and that Palestinians would block any plans to relocate.
Mr Trump has previously talked about permanently settling Palestinians living in Gaza and creating a “Riviera of the Middle East”. Last week, he proposed the idea of the US taking over Gaza and carrying out a major reconstruction campaign.
Mr Trump's plan has met with strong opposition from Arab leaders and the international community, especially as the proposal could exacerbate tensions between Middle Eastern countries and affect peace talks.
In addition, the participation of Arab states in the reconstruction of Gaza under US supervision is a challenging step, as the relationship between these states and Israel - a close ally of the US - remains very tense.
