Van Toan had his first training session with the Vietnamese team on September 4.

Coach Philippe Troussier is making a strong revolution in the personnel of the Vietnam national team, as shown by the 10/31 brand new names given a chance in this training session, but still affirms that players playing abroad like Cong Phuong and Van Toan deserve to be given a chance.

However, the 68-year-old coach must have expected a lot when information appeared that Van Toan, when he returned to the national team to concentrate on the FIFA Days in September, would be able to stay in Vietnam.

Previously, there were many confirmations that a series of big names in Vietnamese football wanted Van Toan's signature, not only to help him escape the situation of sitting on the bench at Seoul E-land Club but also because of the ambition to conquer the V-League championship in the 2023-2024 season.

Van Toan has not been able to confirm a solid position at Seoul E-Land Club.

Recently, there has been information that a big club based in the North is willing to negotiate with the K-League 2 club to "redeem" Van Toan's contract, allowing him to play from the beginning of the V-League next season. People even expect that after the friendly match with the Palestine team on September 11, Van Toan will not return to Korea but stay to train with his new club in Vietnam.

However, up to now, all of the above are just at the "possible" level, as there has not been any specific and effective contact between the Vietnamese and Korean clubs. Head coach of Seoul E-land Club, Mr. Park Choong-kyun, even denied the early separation.

This means that after fulfilling his national duty at this FIFA Days, Van Toan will once again return to the land of kimchi to continue training and compete for a position in the attack of the team that is temporarily ranked 10th out of 13 in K-League 2.

The Vietnam team needs players like Van Toan to play every week.

It is known that Seoul E-land Club will play round 39 of K-League 2 on November 26, while the deadline for registering players for the beginning of the 2023-2024 V-League season falls on November 4. This means that if Van Toan becomes a free agent after this season, he will only be able to register in phase 2 of the 2023-2024 V-League.

That is a scenario that coach Philippe Troussier and the Vietnamese team did not expect at all, because the prospect of Van Toan having to practice alone until the beginning of phase 2 of the 2023-2024 V-League is something no one wants, both for him personally and for the Vietnamese team.

Hopefully a miracle will come when the V-League giants act in time to "unlock" Van Toan's deal, because if he plays regularly in the V-League, it will add quality to the Vietnamese team before entering the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
