Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong ceased to be a member of the Central Committee.

The Central Committee agreed to let Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong, Chairman of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee, resign from his position as member of the 13th Central Committee.

The decision was made at the mid-term Central Conference on May 15.

According to the scheduled program of the 5th session (opening on May 22), the National Assembly will spend the first working day to consider personnel issues. Thus, after ceasing to be a member of the Central Committee, Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong will be relieved by the National Assembly from the position of Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee (a position that requires a member of the Central Committee).

In December 2022, the Central Inspection Commission determined that the Party Executive Committee of Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee violated the principle of democratic centralism and working regulations; lacked responsibility, and loosened leadership and direction, allowing the Provincial People's Committee and many organizations and individuals to violate Party regulations and State laws in implementing a number of projects and equitization work. There were cadres and party members who degraded in political ideology, lifestyle ethics, violated regulations on what party members are not allowed to do and exemplary responsibilities, and were criminally prosecuted.

Along with a number of provincial officials, Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong was held responsible during his tenure as Secretary of the Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee. Many people were disciplined by the Central Inspection Agency, including Mr. Tran Van Vinh, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and former Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, who was warned.

Mr. Tran Dinh Thanh, former member of the Central Committee, former Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, former Chairman of the People's Council of Dong Nai province, was expelled from the Party by the Central Committee at the end of December 2022.

Mr. Nguyen Phu Cuong, 56 years old, Master of Economic Management, Bachelor of Industrial Finance; hometown Tan Uyen town, Binh Duong province; Alternate member of the 11th Central Committee, member of the 12th and 13th Central Committee; National Assembly delegate, 15th term.

Mr. Cuong grew up in the Department of Finance of Dong Nai province, holding the position of Director of the Department. After that, he held many leadership positions in Bien Hoa city such as Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the City People's Committee, Secretary of the City Party Committee. Since the end of 2014, he has been Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee; holding the position of Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee since October 2015.

He was elected by the 15th National Assembly as Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee nearly two years ago (July 2021).

At the beginning of the term, the 13th Central Committee had 180 official members. To date, seven have ceased to hold the position of Central Committee member; three have been expelled from the Party; one has been stripped of all positions in the Party. Thus, the Central Committee currently has 169 members.
