Kika Nazareth's goal to make it 2-0 in the win over Vietnam helped him surpass Cristiano Ronaldo to become the youngest player to score for Portugal at the World Cup.
Nazareth, aged 20 years and 8 months, was selected by coach Francisco Neto to start against Vietnam on July 27. She raised the score to 2-0 for Portugal in the 21st minute. With this goal, Nazareth became the youngest player to score for a Portuguese national football team at the World Cup.

The previous record was set by superstar Cristiano Ronaldo at the 2006 World Cup for men's football. At that time, the striker born in 1985 scored a penalty in the 80th minute, sealing a 2-0 victory for Portugal against Iran in the group stage. Ronaldo was 21 years and 132 days old when he scored in his first World Cup appearance.
Ronaldo has played in five consecutive World Cups and scored in each one. He is the first player to do so.
Nazareth, whose full name is Francisca Ramos Ribeiro Nazareth Sousa, currently plays for Benfica. She made her debut for the club's first team at the age of 16 and signed her first contract in October 2020, at the age of 17. In March 2020, Nazareth made her debut for Portugal. She scored her first international goal on June 22, 2022, in a friendly against Greece.
In the match against Vietnam, in the second round of Group E of the 2023 Women's World Cup, Telma Encarnacao opened the scoring for the European representative in the seventh minute. Nazareth's goal increased the advantage for Neto's team and they maintained the score until the end. This was a historic victory for Portugal in their first World Cup. Before that, they lost 0-1 to the Netherlands in the opening match.
