Haley Taylor Schlitz was born in 2004 in Los Angeles (USA), her parents were both intellectuals. During her school years, the girl struggled to complete her education at school. Realizing that traditional education methods were not suitable for their daughter, her parents decided to homeschool Haley Taylor.
The girl's studies are supervised by her mother. Sharing about self-study, the girl said: "I finished Geography in 3 months and the same for other subjects". Despite self-study, at the age of 13, Haley Taylor graduated from high school, earlier than her peers.
In 2019, Haley Taylor was accepted into 9 law schools in the US. At the age of 16, she received a lot of media attention. Finally, she chose Dedman School of Law at Southern Methodist University (USA). By May 2022, Haley Taylor became the youngest student to graduate in the school's nearly 100-year history.
"We are proud of what Haley Taylor has achieved during her time at the school. We believe she will make a difference. Hopefully in the future we will witness her brilliant career," said Jennifer Collins, Professor at Dedman School of Law.
After graduating, Haley Taylor taught American History to elementary school students at IDEA Edgecliff School (Fort Worth, Texas). The law graduate said: "I do this because I feel it is necessary for the younger generation. Especially the Gen Z generation of color need to contribute more to the community and should become teachers if possible."
Now, at the age of 21, Haley Taylor is officially a lawyer and has just taken the oath of office before the Minnesota Bar Association. To obtain this position, Haley Taylor had to pass the Minnesota bar exam (USA) and be licensed to practice in the North Star State. Haley Taylor shared that the village was a great motivation for her to pursue the path of a lawyer.
Following her own success, Haley Taylor and her mother wrote a book, The Homeschool Alternative , about their experiences as a homeschooling family. By sharing her story, Haley Taylor hopes to inspire young people to pursue their dreams. When asked for advice for aspiring people, Haley Taylor shares her key to success:
Time Management
Haley Taylor has a habit of completing work on time. In addition to studying, the young lawyer also values relaxing to pursue personal hobbies and passions. Haley Taylor believes that these things need to be specific instead of assuming that they might happen.
"Time management is the key to success. Finish your assignments on time, take advantage of every opportunity, but still make time for yourself and your friends. This is like a promise to yourself," Haley Taylor shared.
Make your own path
Haley Taylor advises everyone to create their own path, not to wait for anything: "You will not see the light path ahead if you do not have a dream. We need to accept that, as workers, we must have the spirit of learning. Everything before us is an opportunity to pave the way and change the direction of our lives. Be ambitious."
Breakthrough in choice
Homeschooling taught Haley Taylor that there are things that don't have to be tied down to tradition. Haley Taylor's upbringing is proof that going against the grain isn't always wrong.
This will depend on each person's choice, the 21-year-old female lawyer said: "We can listen to everyone's opinions, but don't be bound by it. Be people with dreams."
No rush
Although she achieved success earlier than her friends, Haley Taylor said that change will happen slowly, not overnight. "As a young representative of Gen Z, I am willing to make the world a better place, but making a difference is a long journey. Sometimes change takes a long time to complete," Haley Taylor said.
