(Dan Tri) - Although she once intended to drop out of school due to her family's dire circumstances, a poor female student in Dak Lak had her dream of going to university realized by readers of Dan Tri newspaper.
Life was at a standstill
We met Tran Thi Thu Trinh (20 years old) again on a sunny day in April at Tay Nguyen University, a female student with a dark complexion, always impressing people with her bright smile. Thu Trinh is now a second-year student of the Faculty of Economics at Tay Nguyen University. At the beginning of the story, Thu Trinh boasted: "My father has had leg surgery and is now much better, his health has improved a lot. My mother's depression is gone, she grows vegetables to sell at the market. I am very happy, sister". Thu Trinh said, nearly 2 years ago, if it weren't for the help of Dan Tri readers, she doesn't know where her life would have gone. At that time, Thu Trinh had just graduated from high school in Krong Pak district, with high exam scores but she fell into a mess when her family situation was too difficult, her parents had many illnesses. The house was short of people, no one took care of her parents and there was no money to buy medicine.
Thu Trinh's father suffered from gangrene in his legs, had to be hospitalized and had both legs amputated, a disease that required a lot of money to treat and save his life. As for his mother, she suffered from depression after a heavy business loss, so she just sat in a dark room alone all day, not daring to leave the house. At that time, Thu Trinh had completed her high school graduation exam, received a university admission notice with a fairly high score, but her heart was filled with sadness. Thu Trinh longed to go to school, but the family was in a deadlock, all expenses depended on her brother, a freelancer in Ho Chi Minh City. Thu Trinh once thought she would have to put off going to university because her family's circumstances were too difficult (Photo: Thuy Diem). The money Thu Trinh's brother earned from working could only cover a part of the living expenses, not enough to buy medicine for his parents, let alone dream of a leg surgery for his father. Seeing the wound on his father's leg rot every day without enough money to go to the hospital, while his mother was depressed and just sat in one place, Thu Trinh thought of giving up her studies to apply for a job as a factory worker to earn money to support her family. With timely help from Dan Tri readers, Thu Trinh is happy that she has money to go to school and her parents can be treated for their illnesses (Photo: Thuy Diem). Knowing Thu Trinh's situation, a leader of the Red Cross Society of Krong Pak district encouraged Thu Trinh to contact Dan Tri newspaper to receive help. The 18-year-old girl shyly exclaimed over the phone: "Sister! Can you help me continue to go to university? My family is so poor."
The wish of a poor female student
After Dan Tri reporters verified the article "The dream of entering university of a poor female student with a paralyzed father and depressed mother" was published, readers encouraged and supported the poor female student with more than 300 million VND. Dan Tri newspaper reporter and leaders of Tay Nguyen University presented money donated by readers to female student Thu Trinh (Photo: Truong Nguyen). On the day she received the money, Thu Trinh's eyes filled with tears because she had become a student at Tay Nguyen University, her parents had been treated, and had overcome their illnesses thanks to the love of strangers whose faces and names she had never met, and the kindness of Dan Tri readers. "I was very surprised to receive more than 300 million VND from Dan Tri newspaper. This amount of money was too large for me and my family, because even in my dreams I never dared to think I would receive this amount of money. I still have more than 200 million VND left. I have opened a savings account. Later, I will repair my parents' house and take care of their health when they get old," Thu Trinh shared. Thu Trinh is still working hard on her studies, setting a goal in the future to help other poor students (Photo: Thuy Diem). Thu Trinh always tries her best and wins the school's scholarship every year. To earn more income, Trinh takes advantage of her free time to work part-time at a coffee shop near the school. "The school is more than 30km from home, so I live in a dormitory that costs only over 150,000 VND/month. I also work part-time to cover my living expenses. I always save and use the money that readers of Dan Tri newspaper donate for the right purpose, without wasting it. The charitable gift from Dan Tri newspaper is a beautiful mark in my life, I will never forget this sincerity," Thu Trinh said emotionally. The female student is always grateful to strangers whose faces and names she does not know but have noble hearts, helping her and her family in the most difficult times (Photo: Thuy Diem). Trinh said that after completing her studies at school, she will find a job to support herself and help her parents. Above all, Thu Trinh cherishes the dream of having a stable job to help students with less fortunate circumstances to go to school like her. Ms. Tran Thi Thanh, President of the Red Cross Society of Krong Pak district, said that Thu Trinh is a very lucky and miraculous case when Dan Tri newspaper helped her in time at the most difficult time, because there was a time when her family had to worry about every meal and did not dare to dream about medical treatment and education. "With the support from readers of Dan Tri newspaper, Thu Trinh boldly treated her father's illness because if she continued to wait for surgery, the wound would become necrotic and very dangerous. The young girl also took care of her mother's medicine, and then felt secure in going to school. On the local side, we really appreciate the kindness of your newspaper that has reached many unfortunate lives, including Thu Trinh's case, helping her overcome the most dangerous times to have more faith in the future ahead," Ms. Thanh shared.
