“Saint’s Day” is a psychological drama film directed by Bach Diep, made in 1975, released in 1976. The film is adapted from the novel “Sea Storm” by writer Chu Van, telling the story of the social life of a coastal Catholic village in the North in the early 60s of the 20th century. From the story of two sisters Nhan and Ai, who have an unhappy marriage but are bound by old ideology, the film gradually unties the knots in the lives of two women, expanding to the issues of the whole society.
Contributing to the success of the film are veteran artists: People's Artist Tra Giang - in the role of Ms. Nhan; People's Artist Nhu Quynh - in the role of Ms. Ai; Artist Viet Lien - in the role of Anh Vuong and People's Artist Tran Phuong - in the role of Anh Tiep. But it was also "Holy Day" that brought the role of a lifetime to the generation of veteran actors of Vietnamese cinema.

Recalling the journey of playing the role of a coastal woman, People's Artist Nhu Quynh shared that she had to learn to speak loudly and walk strongly to make her voice sound more authentic, and could not speak softly as usual. As for People's Artist Tra Giang, although she had read the original work of the film - the novel "Sea Storm", she could not have imagined that she would be chosen to play the role of Ms. Nhan. Because before the film "Saint's Day", she had never played a formidable, shrewish and "ignorant" role like Ms. Nhan. However, when playing the roles of the two sisters Nhan and Ai, both actresses performed excellently, truly becoming coastal women, talking about the wind and waves, with the typical personality of each character.
As for artist Viet Lien, this is his first time acting in a movie. The role of Anh Vuong came to him by chance, while helping his mother sell goods. After carrying a heavy sack home, the 50-year-old Viet Lien took off his shirt to cool off, revealing his strong body and healthy figure. It was at that moment that he caught the eye of director Bach Diep and was chosen for the role of Anh Vuong, a simple and honest coastal boy who loves Ai with all his heart, even though social prejudices seemed to have prevented them from being together.

If you look closely at the crowded scenes in the film, the audience will also be surprised to realize that the movie “Saint’s Day” has many extras played by famous actors such as: Meritorious Artist Phuong Thanh, Meritorious Artist Ngoc Thu, Meritorious Artist Hoang Yen, Dung Nhi… Explaining this interesting detail, People’s Artist Nhu Quynh said that the movie “Saint’s Day” was filmed right at the time when the 2nd Cinema class of the University of Theater and Cinema went on an internship, so the movie has such a large cast of extras.
It is known that artist Viet Lien is currently living in Hai Phong, People's Artist Nhu Quynh is living in Hanoi and People's Artist Tra Giang is living in Ho Chi Minh City. Since the film "Saint's Day" was completed and released, they have not had the opportunity to work together and meet each other. At "Cine 7 - Vietnamese Film Memories", after half a century, the artists still cannot forget the difficult and deprived days of making the film. Hundreds of meters of film were filmed, transported from Nam Dinh to the Feature Film Studio in Hanoi for inspection, and only a few days later did they know if the quality was okay, if it was not okay, they had to reshoot. Girls born and raised in Hanoi like People's Artist Nhu Quynh had to live for 6 months in the coastal area of Hai Hau, Nam Dinh, learning how to work and fish professionally like the people in the coastal area. It was these difficulties that helped the feelings of the brothers and sisters in the crew become closer. With the enthusiastic support of the people and the enthusiastic and dedicated working spirit of the actors, all difficulties have passed, so that we can have 2 episodes of "Saint's Day" full of emotions, bringing an inspirational story about a generation working hard, changing the old, developing the new, for a better society.
