Among them, many Muong and Dao households responded to the contest "Building and maintaining bright, green, clean, beautiful and safe villages, hamlets and alleys", taking the lead in the movement to help communes complete the targets in building new rural areas.

Voluntarily donate land to build new rural areas

Ba Vi district has 31 communes and towns, of which the mountainous area has 7 communes with 76 villages; ethnic minorities have 29,477 people/7,538 households (accounting for 37.1% of the population in ethnic and mountainous areas). People's awareness of the new rural construction program in recent years has been significantly improved, which is demonstrated through activities of donating land to build roads, contributing labor and money to join hands with local authorities to build their homeland more and more prosperous and beautiful.

In the past 5 years, 7 mountainous communes of Ba Vi have had 343 households donate land with a total of 30,540m2, of which the residential land area is 10,455m2, accounting for 34% of the donated land area for road construction and other welfare works.

Typically, in Minh Quang commune of Ba Vi district, 40% of the population is Muong ethnic group, the economy is not highly developed but efforts in economic development and improving living standards have helped Minh Quang "change its skin". This is the first mountainous commune of Ba Vi district to reach the finish line of building advanced new rural areas.

Chairman of Minh Quang Commune People's Committee Nguyen Tien Tha said that this result was achieved thanks to the strong will and determination from the commune authorities to the villages and hamlets, and especially the participation of the local people in solidarity and joining hands to gradually complete the criteria for building new rural areas.

In recent years, the propaganda about the benefits of building new rural areas has been widely disseminated, helping people understand and agree to participate. Currently, the villages in the commune all have beautiful, green flower and tree streets, good economic development models such as: Lat village develops services, Minh Hong village develops vermicelli craft village, Xuan Tho village and Pheo village have a tradition of growing vegetables.

“Minh Quang commune has a natural area of over 2,800 hectares; more than 3,400 households live in 15 villages and more than 40% of the population are Muong ethnic people. Implementing the construction of advanced new rural areas, in the period of 2021 - 2024, Minh Quang commune has mobilized more than 655 billion VND to build rural infrastructure, develop production, culture and environment. Over the past many years, nearly 1,000 square meters of land have been donated by the people to build roads... Up to now, Minh Quang has a spacious infrastructure; all households have solid houses, no dilapidated houses. The average income per capita reaches more than 75 million VND/year and the commune has no poor households" - Mr. Nguyen Tien Tha said.

In addition, mountainous communes such as Khanh Thuong, Ba Vi, Yen Bai... also focus on construction and development according to the set orientation. In Khanh Thuong commune, the Go Dinh Muon - Buoi inter-village road project invested by the State will pass through the family land in 2022.

With the encouragement of the local government, Ms. Nguyen Thi Bon's family in Buoi village agreed to donate more than 1,500m2. Or in Yen Bai commune, typical Muong ethnic households such as Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky donated 265m2, Mr. Nguyen Trong Luc donated 200m2, Mr. Ngo Xuan Thuy donated 200m2. In early 2024, responding to the policy of Ba Vi district to invest in expanding the road in Hop Nhat village, Ba Vi commune, where 98% of the population is Dao ethnic, Mr. Trieu Tien Quang's family donated 550m2 of land to expand the village road. In Van Hoa commune, Mr. Kieu Van Tuan's family donated 125m2 of land to the commune to build a cultural house in Nghe village...

Driving force for economic and social development

The new rural construction movement has been and is expected by Hanoi to bring about a "change of skin" in rural areas in the area. To continue to develop strongly and spread widely, it is necessary to have the cooperation of the entire political system and the entire population. In Ba Vi in particular and Hanoi in general, propaganda and mobilization work have been promoted, clarifying the purpose, meaning and benefits of the program as well as competitions related to each residential area and each subject.

In particular, the contest “Building and maintaining bright, green, clean, beautiful and safe villages, hamlets and alleys” has been widely deployed by the district, demonstrated by the people’s response and contribution to the movement with many meaningful actions and works that are extremely impressive in building new rural areas. The contest has created a clear change in the landscape from urban to rural areas, creating a sustainable living environment, improving the quality of people’s lives. Thereby, creating a strong driving force to promote the tradition of solidarity, will and determination to build a prosperous and beautiful new rural area.

Chairman of Yen Bai Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Lap said that with the participation and cooperation of the government and people, Yen Bai commune has had great changes, along with the spirit of solidarity and sharing of local people towards building new rural areas.

“The economy is developing, the living standards of each family are improving, people's awareness is changing and they understand the benefits they receive when donating land to have wide and beautiful roads. The people's initiative to donate land when there is a project as well as road expansion has great significance in building their homeland, contributing to joining hands with the locality to build new and improved rural areas in the commune" - Mr. Nguyen Van Lap shared.

Over 10 years of building new rural areas, Ba Vi district people have donated more than 200,000m2 of residential land and nearly 900,000m2 of agricultural land. This movement has created land to expand roads in residential areas from 2m to an average of 4-5m, in many places 9m, creating a spacious rural appearance. Head of the Ethnic Affairs Department of Ba Vi district Bui Huy Giap said that the mountainous communes of Ba Vi district, especially the Muong and Dao ethnic people, are always enthusiastic in donating land to build roads.

In the past 5 years, 7 mountainous communes of the district have had 343 households donate land with a total of 30,540m2, of which the residential land area is up to 10,455m2, accounting for 34% of the donated land area for road construction and other welfare works.

The donation of land for road construction in 7 mountainous communes of Ba Vi district, including ethnic minorities such as Muong and Dao people, is truly valuable. This is an important source of motivation for the locality to continue to build and develop the socio-economy to bring a prosperous life to the ethnic minorities in the district" - Mr. Bui Huy Giap said.

The land donation of households has helped projects in mountainous communes in particular and Ba Vi district in general, helping roads to be given a new look. That is the motivation for the government and people of Ba Vi district to strive to reach the criteria in developing new rural areas in the following years and contribute to building a bright, green, clean, beautiful and civilized district.
