Actively release seeds according to the spread-out method

Early April is the start of the main shrimp farming season in Nghe An. Localities such as Quynh Luu, Dien Chau and Hoang Mai town have prepared ponds, lagoons and water sources for seed release. However, instead of releasing seeds en masse, many farmers have chosen to release them in batches to adapt to weather and market conditions.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tien - owner of a shrimp pond in Quynh Bang commune (Quynh Luu), said that his family used to have 6 shrimp ponds, but this year due to lack of manpower, he only maintained 2 ponds, leaving the remaining area for other households to raise. Like previous years, this year, to ensure safety, he first stocked 1 pond with a density of 50 shrimp/ m2 , carried out a thorough pond renovation process and closely monitored water environment indicators. This method helps him control risks and make timely adjustments if an incident occurs.

Similarly, Mr. Ho Dinh Hop’s family in Quynh Bang commune also applied the strategy of releasing shrimp for testing. With nearly 4 hectares of ponds and lagoons, he divided them into many areas and only released shrimp in a part at first. According to Mr. Hop, this method helps to grasp market demand, avoiding the situation of shrimp purchase price dropping sharply when harvesting in bulk. At the same time, if an epidemic occurs, the damage will also be limited to a small area.

According to Mr. Ho Dang Tam - Director of Quynh Bang General Agricultural Cooperative, the locality currently has more than 120 hectares of shrimp farming. To prepare for the main farming season, households have treated the pond bottom, repaired machinery and checked the power grid system for shrimp farming. By early April, about 30% of the area had been stocked with shrimp in a spread-out manner. The cooperative management board has also strengthened disease surveillance and instructed people to promptly handle any unusual signs.

In addition to pond management, the issue of seed quality is also a top priority. People recommend that authorities strengthen inspection of seed sources circulating in the area, ensuring that shrimp seeds have clear origins and are disease-free. At the same time, disease prevention drugs for shrimp also need to be strictly controlled to avoid farmers buying poor quality products.

In the shrimp farming area of Quynh Thanh commune, besides the ponds and lagoons that are in the process of water treatment, there are some ponds that have released shrimp fry. Shrimp farmers said that the solution of spreading shrimp farming has been implemented effectively by the people in previous years, so they continue to implement it this year. For example, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay's family has 3 ponds and lagoons, but in early April, he only released 1 pond, the rest will be released in the second half of April and early May.

In the farming areas of Minh Luong commune (Quynh Luu) and Quynh Xuan commune (Hoang Mai town), the weather conditions in early April were quite favorable, making it easy for farmers to deploy the new farming season. With the farming areas in net houses, people apply the high-density intensive farming model (120 - 150 fish/ m2 ), raising in many stages to optimize output. Meanwhile, outdoor ponds mainly raise extensively with low density, reducing investment costs and limiting risks.

Quynh Luu District is the locality with the largest brackish shrimp farming area in the province, with nearly 600 hectares. Mr. Bui Xuan Truc - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment said that shrimp farming is facing difficult conditions in terms of weather and disease, so the local Fisheries Department also encourages people to release shrimp seeds in a scattered manner, in a rolling manner to facilitate the care process and reduce risks when disease occurs.

Expectations for brackish water shrimp crop in 2025

By 2025, Nghe An aims to have a shrimp farming area of 1,776 hectares, with an expected output of 10,500 tons. With proactive methods of stocking and application of science and technology, the province's shrimp industry is expected to achieve higher efficiency than in previous years.

Mr. Le Van Huong - Deputy Head of the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Control of Nghe An province recommends that farmers should proactively prevent diseases, especially common diseases such as cataract, acute hepatopancreatic necrosis, white spot, etc. Due to the long season from April to June, releasing shrimp in a rolling manner helps to better manage diseases, and at the same time, avoid being forced to lower prices by traders when harvesting simultaneously. The solutions of farmers are the hope for a successful new shrimp crop.

The Department of Fisheries and Fisheries Surveillance is committed to continuing to coordinate with relevant units to control the quality of seed and input materials, and at the same time, provide technical support to farmers. These cautious steps will contribute to ensuring sustainable development for the Nghe An shrimp industry in the coming time.

In the 2025 brackish water shrimp crop, shrimp farmers in the province have drawn a lot of experience. Such as proactively applying solutions for farming in the form of exploration, applying new farming models to improve production efficiency. Caution in production in the current context is necessary, ensuring safety in the new farming season.
