At this time, the fields of localities in Ha Tinh are bustling with the sight of farmers speeding up the progress of land preparation and planting the first rice crops of the 2024 spring rice crop.
In recent days, the fields of village 3, Xuan Linh commune, Nghi Xuan district have always been bustling with people working the land, cutting grass, fetching water... to prepare for the spring rice crop. Mr. Tran Dinh Canh has been working on 1 acre of rice this year. For about a week now, he has been busy with farm work almost every day, sometimes plowing the land, dredging canals, and bringing water to the fields.
The fields in Xuan Linh commune are bustling with the 2024 spring rice planting season.
“We just prepare the land and plant accordingly. Taking advantage of the favorable weather, my family has finished planting 5 sao, mainly N24 variety. If the weather is still warm and sunny, in just a few days, I will finish planting this first tea variety,” said Mr. Tran Dinh Canh.
Mrs. Nguyen Thi Ha's field was the last to start planting from January 7.
For Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, also in Hamlet 3, Xuan Linh Commune, although her family only grows 2 sao of rice, with the concept that the spring rice crop is the main rice crop of the year, she also takes care of every piece of soil and seed before the sowing season begins. “About a month ago, I went to the field to weed, clean the banks, and bring water into the field to soak the soil, creating conditions for quick and effective soil preparation and eliminating potential pests from the previous crop. I plan to plant the seeds around January 7, so today I went to the field to clean the field again to keep the water even, ensuring the best germination of the seeds,” Ms. Ha shared.
People of Mai Phu commune (Loc Ha) go to the fields to "plant rice" when the weather is sunny.
In some low-lying areas of Loc Ha, farmers have proactively planted seedlings and covered them with plastic to cope with the extreme weather conditions at the beginning of the spring crop. During the recent warm weather, people have both worked the land and gone to the fields to "practice seedling cultivation". Mr. Nguyen Tien Dien, Mai Phu commune, said: "The entire 3 sao of HT1 rice has been sown since the 15th day of the 11th lunar month (December 26, 2023), now for 11 days. To save time, at this time, we focus on land preparation, getting enough water in the fields to take advantage of the weather to go down to the fields to plant rice on time for the season".
In the 2024 spring crop, the whole province plans to produce 59,107 hectares of rice, starting from January 5 to February 8, 2024. Along with production plans, this year, the whole province continues to focus on expanding the area of converted fields, concentrating and accumulating land associated with new rural planning, building OCOP, organic and commodity products.
Farmers in Ha Tinh city cover rice seedlings with plastic.
In the days approaching the sowing season, across the fields from Duc Tho, Can Loc, Thach Ha, Cam Xuyen, the land conversion machines are still rumbling at the speed of time. Mr. Le Van Danh - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cam Xuyen district said: "In the spring crop of 2024, the whole district will produce 9,560.1 hectares of rice with the main varieties: Bac Thinh, VNR10, BT09, ADI 168, ST25, JO2. Of these, 1,100 hectares will be produced in concentrated fields, accumulating land (an increase of nearly 500 hectares compared to 2023), creating favorable conditions for production direction as well as concentration on sowing season, shortening time and costs for farmers, contributing to responding well to adverse weather in the production season. The district's concentrated sowing season starts from January 15 and ends in early February 2024".
Cam Xuyen district has basically completed land preparation for the 2024 spring crop.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first calendar period (January 5-10), the whole province has about 2,000 hectares of rice planted (varieties N24, BTE1, P6), mainly concentrated in the districts of Nghi Xuan, Loc Ha and a few in Duc Tho. Favorable weather has created favorable conditions for farmers to complete the planned areas well; at the same time, the remaining areas have also completed the land preparation, conversion, and construction of concentrated fields... The peak planting season of this year's spring crop will last from January 10-30 (December 15-20 of the lunar calendar), focusing on about 90% of the province's main rice varieties.
