Students take photos with historical witnesses.
The program met and exchanged with Mr. Tran Cong Ngu - former Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee - Chairman of the Association for the Support of Poor Patients and the Disabled in Ben Tre Province, Mr. Nguyen Tan Dat (Musician Lan Phong) - former Director of the Ben Tre Provincial Cultural Center and Mr. Le Van Thuc - former prisoner of Con Dao. These are historical witnesses, who experienced the fierce war with unforgettable memories. The meeting was attended by a large number of union members, youth, and students from schools in Ben Tre City.
Mr. Le Van Thuc - former prisoner of Con Dao recounts memories of wartime.
Meeting Mr. Le Van Thuc - a former prisoner of Con Dao, from Tam Phuoc commune, Chau Thanh district, he told his stories about the reasons why he was captured by the enemy and sentenced to death, the torture he received as well as the harshness of his time in Con Dao prison.
Mr. Le Van Thuc is also the main character in the famous photo "Mother and son, former prisoner of Con Dao" (taken by author Lam Hong Long in 1975). The photo captures the moment when mother Tran Thi Binh hugged Mr. Le Van Thuc, mother and son cried together on the day of reunion. Mr. Le Van Thuc said: "At that time, mother and son met again, just hugged and cried for a long time. My mother did not think that I would return alive and mother and son would meet again". Because of the revolution's request, Mr. Thuc was infiltrated into the enemy's ranks, which made his mother very sad. Only later did she learn that Mr. Thuc was a revolutionary soldier sentenced to death in Con Dao prison. The day mother and son met again was therefore even more emotional.
Mr. Tran Cong Ngu shared at the talk show.
The program also met Mr. Tran Cong Ngu and listened to the story of the Liberation Art Troupe. During the war, facing the oppression of the enemy, revolutionary cultural and artistic activities were even more urgent and were an important driving force contributing to encouraging the fighting spirit of the army and people. The province's Liberation Art Troupe traveled throughout the base, closely associated with the army and people, serving the people. Mr. Tran Cong Ngu also recounted the important battles that he witnessed as well as the story of hero Hoang Lam and the Water Commando Team.
"Culture and art are also a front, artists and writers are also soldiers on that front" - that saying of President Ho Chi Minh always permeates the thoughts of those working in culture and art. During the resistance period, many poets, writers, painters, musicians, etc. had works that exalted the spirit and will to fight, strongly encouraged the victories, and continued to write the heroic history of the nation.
