The meeting was attended by research institutes and experts from Korea, representatives of the Vietnam Road Administration (Ministry of Construction), representatives of the Departments of Construction of Da Nang City and Quang Ngai Province, and experts from Da Nang University of Technology.
The “Project for capacity development on smart maintenance technology for old bridges in Quang Nam province” is funded by the Korean Government with a non-refundable budget of 4.75 billion won (equivalent to 90 billion VND). The implementation period is from 2021 to 2025 with the goal of improving the professional capacity of Quang Nam province engineers in inspecting, assessing the safety and maintaining bridge works using smart technology currently used in Korea through training.
The project also sponsors and installs smart devices on 2 pilot bridges (Nguyen Van Troi Bridge, Truong Giang Bridge) to monitor the working situation; in case of unsafe factors, timely detection is required for repair. Develop procedures, standards, and manuals for safety inspection of old bridges to promptly detect and repair unsafe damages. Transfer technology and sponsored equipment to Quang Nam for management and use at 2 pilot bridges and the monitoring center at the Department of Construction.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Director of Quang Nam Department of Construction - Tran Ngoc Thanh said that the project was launched on December 29, 2021 with an online meeting between the Korean side and Quang Nam province, in a very difficult situation, especially being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost all investment promotion and project initiation activities were carried out online, via official letters and phone calls between the two sides.
When it came to implementation, many unfavorable factors continued to affect the project due to language barriers, differences in regulations between the two countries and arising from reality. However, thanks to the efforts of agencies and units of the two countries and the determination, close coordination and mutual support between experts, civil servants and engineers of the two sides, the project has now been basically completed.
At the meeting, the Quang Nam Department of Construction coordinated with Korean contractors to inform about the project implementation results. Attendees had many opinions, suggestions, discussions, and experience sharing to complete, draw lessons from, and complete the project implementation results report for the competent authority. The Department of Construction will maintain and organize the effective use of sponsored technical equipment and continue to coordinate with Korean agencies and units to promote new projects in the future.
